Assuming you mean assault rifle, that would mean we have one every day since 1943, which isn’t true. Also none of the weapons used were assault rifles. Also they have access to the same kinds of rifles in other countries like Canada, but nowhere near the numbers of mass shootings. Finally, the current rate of mass shootings is a historical anomaly, it’s a recent development at a time when gun laws are much stricter than they were in the past. You could buy a submachine gun or automatic rifle with no liscencing or paperwork in the US in the 30s and they didn’t have these problems.

If you want the right of the people to bear arms not to be infringed, would you put it in its own amendment or lump it together in a sentence describing the militia, and then separate the two statements with a comma rather than a full stop.

It already passed once in the 90's. They don't confiscate the guns. They just grandfather them. That means existing ones are still legal to own but no new ones can be sold. The ban in the 90's had a 10 year clause which meant it needed to be voted on again in 10 years. It failed to be extended so it expired. "assault weapons" became legal again in 2005.

It had no effect on gun deaths or the murder rate and the gun murder rate continued to fall after they were legal again. There was no spike when they hit the market again.
