>Nationwide standards for education
>Standards are largely determined by Texas, California, and New York
well shucks, I just don't know.

>What is wrong with Common Core?
A lot of it is fine, but those parts are the parts that local schools do anyway. The problem is that it is a way for the federal government to force schools to teach what the government wants them to teach... and you know exactly where that's going. (Hint: Germany and Sweden do this too.)

absolutely nothing.

repubs go "muh creationism" and "muh advanced calculus" without realizing that no wants or uses either of them in 99% of normal life.

>Making teachers teach concepts that not even they learned in school
Really jingles my pringles batman

it ruins math, for one
makes people more retarded, for 2
name any functioning machine created by common core

Just fund the damn schools, let the teachers teach in their own way, and cut out the fucking administrators.

>Federally mandated education
>Literally the strawman counterargument against public education in a physical form

The introduction of subjectivity to fundamentally objective fields.

>wasting trillions of dollars and billions of man-years on trivia everyone forgets

Public education is a scourge that has brought nothing but liberalism and waste

Dad of a third grader here. Imagine having to show your kid 6 different ways to add 315 and 166. Instead of just adding the numbers like normal, you have to group them in different ways. Some involve drawing symbols etc. It basically complicates a simple task like addition. In theory it's supposed to make it easier for the kids to do mental math but I question the methodology. Just starting to do multiplication so I'm looking forward to the 6 different dumbass ways they teach them to multiply the same numbers.

Time to dust off the common core folder

...

...

...

...

...

>it ruins math, for one

Digits confirm.

Yeah, I've seen the bastardization that Common Core has done to math.

...

it's meant to teach dumb kids how to do easy arithmetic in their heads, so if you're not a complete moron you'll never understand it. that's why they want you to estimate and shit, so you can group numbers in groups of tens and subtract and then worry about ones. essentially it's teaching math to retards that we all have to sit through.

...

Specifically designed to make kids second guess themselves and second guess what seems logical. Part of dumbing them down and indoctrinating them

They expect kids to learn this? No wonder they hate math.

For a more serious answer, I was looking into become a teacher a year or so back. Common Core has a "democratic" system in determining curriculum, in that, hundreds of textbooks are written every two years, and are screened by the national board of education, those that passed are screened again by a different committee, than given an approval. With the approval, the authors then shill their textbooks to the state, and they choose a certain number of books they enjoy, ect, ect. By the time this process finally reaches the county level, there is only one, maybe three different textbook curriculum to choose from, out of the hundreds that were written and never even heard of at the smaller levels.

The problem? Texas, California, and New York have the highest ratio of approved textbooks out of the entire country, and because of this, their books are usually given more weight than other states'. So, since its inception, Common Core has been written, directed, and enforced by the same city-dwelling retards we complain about on this board for much the same reasons.

The people teaching it don't know basic shit in the first place.

if this was a yryl thread i'd have just lost.

Takes a good idea like being able to approach a problem from multiple angles and makes it stupid by expecting kids to memorize all of them, literally missing the point. It's like trying to prescribe cleverness or intuition.

Moreover, the teachers carrying out these curricula are painfully incompetent. America's dominance will soon come to a grinding halt in a few decades because literally everyone will be stupid.

I always used to circle the 'wrong' answer on these in 2nd grade. My teachers really hated me.

Appears to me that some people took the common core standards and created their own lesson plans off that framework. But maybe it was misinterpreted.

Distributive property is not something to be looked down upon.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributive_property

Its been around since forever.

>such important issues

>school system pushes kids into uni
>school system doesn't prepare kids for uni math
>kids go into social sciences and other non STEM programs
>these programs are where Marxist indoctrination is abundant

They expect them to fail

It tries to teach concepts that people who study or are naturally good at figure out themselves eventually. Especially in math, but not limited to obviously, they will have wrong answers on purpose be the correct answer just to make the student follow a specific method. It's retarted teaching and comes off as if the main lesson is 'OBEY'. Probably every American here has gotton a test even 10-20 years ago with 12 lines of directions to have the last direction read,' A perfect score is achieved by writing your name in ONLY and turning it in blank'. This reminds me of that shit too.

The actual test just has a single choice to make:
D: Anti-White
R: Pro-Jew

...

(((common core)))

A white kid who is falling behind, in his Homework, can ask his dad for help. That puts black kids at a disadvantage because their parents are black. So they re-wrote all math in some kind of recursive double-chinese-greek riddles, so that when the white kid didn't fucking understand it, he couldn't ask his dad, because doing the math the old way is not allowed and doing it that way gets you marked down. Now both sides fail, so the average goes up, or something.

First take a look at .
I don't think it's necessarily because of book choice, but I think that's a symptom of the larger issue of the mindset being used here. If you want a million problems that result out of common core, we can give you those. If you want to know what we'd do instead, you'd get much more interesting answers.

For instance, I think that every kid should work and that low level menial work can largely be done by teenagers, and that a small work life introduced at a young age will easily help bridge the gap between education and employment.

Perhaps even worse on that picture is the part that says "Supreme Court - says if laws are fair". Obviously a fan of judicial activism.

No fucking textbooks.

No idea why, or how the fuck it's supposed to work, but starting last year they stopped assigning the kids textbooks at their schools and started using common core approved printouts from the CC website. It's fucking ridiculous, when my daughter doesn't understand something I would normally point to the books example and explain it, but now I have to do it all myself, I feel like I'm doing the teacher's job and wondering what the fuck I'm paying her for.

According to the media, its this:

> 2+ 2 = 5

Common core isn't about doing the math correctly, its just about trying.

So unless you've dug deeper, that's why you are probably against common core.

is this really true?

Actually yes, the creator said in a conference that he designed CC to close the race gap.

How would you propose to close the race gap if you can't make niggers smarter? Only leaves one option.

only a progressive thinks arithmetic is "advanced calculus"

Reminder that GamerGate investigations lead into the dark depths of how Common Core was created, literally owned, bought, and patented by Bill fucking Gates.

GATE is the predecessor program to Common Core. Search the 4plebs archives for some GATE threads to find out some spooky redpills. Rundown:
> Tavistock Foundation (the globalists' brainwashing experts who created MKULTRA) were in charge of designing and running "Gifted and Talented Education" in the USA in the early '80s through '90s.
> supposedly "enrichment" for smart kids
> a whole bunch of oldfags went through this program, failed at some point in their life, and ended up on Sup Forums
> these high-IQ oldfag washouts started comparing notes and discovered some horrifying similarities
> GATE program actual purpose: cover for multiple govt. studies with minimal oversight
> GATE classes typically occurred in dark rooms with the windows covered
> Program essentially gave high-IQ anons extra work so they would be slowed down and "tracked" at the same grade-level pace as the normies
> Weird similarities: many had near-drowning experiences, Jewish ex-girlfriends, and early-20s burnout or drug use period
> Plus, local differences in GATE programs i.e. some schools used it for de facto segregation (in majority-shitskin schools) while others used it to administer medicines and do ESP testing to kids.
> mostly pre-Internet so minimal records exist to dig up.
> possibility that we were MKULTRA'd and don't remember it.../x/ tier but when a bunch of high IQ oldfags are worried maybe it's time to think a little more

can I have a sauce for further digging?

>The commands of the gov must be obeyed by all.
>The wants of an indiviudual are less important than the well being of the nation.
I have never seen two sentences as scary as these on the same page

>parents are black
>parents
>plural

So it is an anti-white or pro-jew conspiracy? Or both?

common core math is sorta what they teach math league people on how to do math in your head quickly. (You probably do a version of this in your head instinctually)
Like how do you multiple 24 and 40?
You can multiply them easily by first multiplying 40 by 20, then adding the product of 4 and 20.

Common core teaches this, but it's fucking retarded because it doesn't make sense to use it on a peice of paper when just doing it by the box method or whatever is easily and less error prone and not full of witch craft drawings and shit.

Common Core at it's core is trying to bring niggers to human levels of intelligence but it's not going to work, for many reasons.

I'll just leave this here.

youtube.com/watch?v=LQ8Nr3_2724

I actually took a year in gifted in talented

Tavistock also linked back to a whole bunch of media corporations and even weapons manufacturers. Those GATE threads were a fucking nightmare, and iirc were happening around the time of the original pedowood investigations too.

That's the problem.

In America, teachers come out of the 10% worst students in college that manage to pass. That is, they are drawn almost exclusively from the bottom 10% of all graduating college students.

Why? Cause the bright ones can get much better paying jobs in private industry (corporate jobs).

Being the worst performing students, they tend to be very low motivation, particularly when the job itself is usually a union job, with extreme unionist already applied. That is, job is secured, even if you are a female caught making porn movies for extra money. Your pay goes up at predetermined schedule, regardless of your own job performance or attendance record.

Now, you are expected to teach people, but no standards can be used to measure you job performance because everyone knows students learn at their own rates, and teachers cannot do it for them. Best American teachers can do is assist students in learning.

So where's a teacher going to "teach" in their own way? They have no incentive to do so, and there is no reward to do so.

it was called SEARCH here and i always felt it was a waste of time, they bussed us to another school the entire day once a week and we draw and "created" shitty board games, or """inventions"""

Then I had to go back to class the next day and catch up on all my homework.

In my TAG class they had us do things like research a genocide (I had the Cambodian), interact using fake stock market, and read and make hands-on projects for a reading. Many days I felt like I was getting good grades but didn't deserve it.

that's not how you teach objective reasoning. mathematics is not about just trying and not giving a shit about the answer.

Had two friends in GATE. One skipped two grades and was always going to an academy or camp before he dropped 'I'm going away' but his family wasn't moving. The other lasted two years and came back to regular classes full time. The latter became a SJW youth pastor turned atheist who divorced his wif while pregnant with his second kid. I just wonder what happened to poor Ben.

I was in middleschool btw

This is from the 5th grade mathmatics section:

Direct Source: corestandards.org/Math/Content/5/OA/

>Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
>Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them. For example, express the calculation "add 8 and 7, then multiply by 2" as 2 × (8 + 7). Recognize that 3 × (18932 + 921) is three times as large as 18932 + 921, without having to calculate the indicated sum or product.

Allow me to emphasis
>Recognize that 3 × (18932 + 921) is three times as large as 18932 + 921, without having to calculate the indicated sum or product.
>without having to calculate the indicated sum or product

So if your answer is the correct sum, you will be counted wrong because your job is to understand that the expression 3 x (Y) is three times as big as whatever Y may be.

Meanwhile, when I was in 5th grade we were practicing memorization of the multiplication table of all numbers between 1 and 9. Not only that, but we were already being taught rules on division and how to multiply larger sums without a calculator.

Common Core 5th grade is a year behind what I was taught in my own educational experience. It is made by and for total retards.

Wait what
In 5th I was accepted into the GT program via abstract geometry test (Plano) and prior to that, I had been in vacation in Kingston where I had almost drowned...I want the thread please

>5th grade
>multiplication table
user were you retarded? that was grade 3 here

it will be funny when common core retards start trying to do calculus and higher level algebra.

math NEEDS a very strong foundation, with a few tricks in between.
I don't see common core as a very good foundation at all, mostly just a bunch of dumb parlor tricks. a lot of people's perception of math is going to crumble when the tricks stop working, and they have no foundation.

there is a critical period for learning core knowledge like fucking dunno COUNTING and shieeeet. common core literally takes 123 and makes it muh feelings and no wa bout jaquans feelans dooeh i mean why wee gootta spell and seehhhhit doe massa

Welcome to the United States - where we teach basic math 3yrs late

I bequeath unto thee my rarest (you), treasure it well.

Varied from state to state and public to private, pretty drastically still does for the latter. my private school in FL started that in later half of first grade and was tackling basic algebra by 3rd. Then for one year my parents couldn't afford it and I had to go to public for a year in 6th grade, and they were doing my 2nd grade shit. Was boring as fuck.

What the absolute ever loving FUCK burgers? Like it was grade 3 here AND it was 1-12 multiplications not 1-9, by end of grade 4 we were on basic algebra.

The entire problem is the shunting of responsibility of raising kids on the state. Can't feed your kid? Don't worry we've got welfare and food stamps. Can't house your kid? Don't worry, gubmints got it. Don't want to teach your kid? Just let public schools handle it!

The number 1 determinant in student success isn't funding, or quality of teachers, or curriculum, or after school programs, or any other publicly funded wasteful bullshit.

It's parental involvement. The kids who get the best grades do so because their parents are on their ass making sure they do their homework and study. There are kids who do it without parents giving a fuck but it's rare. If you're a reasonably intelligent person ask yourself how much do you owe the public education system for it? Probably not much...you're intelligent because you take interest in learning on your own time, you read and have atleast semi-intellectual hobbies and interests. Not because some fucking asinine lesson plan spoonfed it to you

They put niggers and women in the same math class as humans, slows the whole thing down.

We had multiplication in small doses in 1+2 grade in the schools i went to. 3rd was you had to learn it. 6th was pre-algebra, but it wasn't picked up again until the 'high' 8th grade or 'base' 9th grade. Which was weird to me. But yeah, states are different.

This.

>Tyrone! Please tell me what 2+2 equals?

>Bix nood ooga booga mofo sheeit tree fiddy

while not technically correct, Tyrone used the ooga summed into booga with coefficient of sheeit multiplied by bix nood to come up 3.50.

Therefore he is correct. 2+2=tree fiddy

No fuckin way? They give kids this shit in school? They are already indoctrinating them into a two party "democratic" system, and picking a side? Pls tell me this isn't real.

And the star citizen stuff, along with other similar works, is collected and collated to identify student proclivities and sold to (((education tech companies)))

lmao i remember doing something in 3rd grade about drugs and tobacco. it was so fucking weird I had to tally up what i thought about ciggerrettes and drugs.
But none of us had hardly even seen cigs or weed or anything. It was fucking stupid, looking back.

Amerifat here. When I was in school, we did multiplication in 3rd and 4th grades. Extreme repetition to help us learn it. But I'm an old neckbeard.

What the fuuck!? OMG I thought "public indoctrination" was a metaphor not literally turning out commies.

Who is John Dewey?

>He still doesnt understand how pervasive the jew is.
Welcome to Sup Forums truly now my friend.

>education program that teaches children mental techniques to be efficient thinkers
>bad

Willing to bet a lot of the retards attacking CCore in here still need a calculator when doing math below a calculus level

You cannot use one tool to do every job, and you can't use one singular method to teach every kid. Common core is a nice idea but has a shitty execution.

Don't forget, every pubic school in America offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner to the students, to make sure none of them go hungry because hungry students cannot learn. And poor students get their meals subsidized or free, depending on local conditions and programs.

In fact, even when school is closed, like for the summer, they still offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, to make sure kids away from school aren't hungry so they can do their homework.

Wonder why Americans are fat? Cause we have food everywhere, and its damn cheap if not free.

Bread and circuses, people. Bread and circuses.

Everything (In short)

They take simple math problems like 25-8=17 and turn it into a confusing clusterfuck.

The problem is flexibility. If a kid does mental arithmetic fine he shouldn't have to "prove himself" by writing out a less efficient method that probably doesn't work for him.

And I am coming to the conclusion that this slows down students education who would otherwise be sped up exponentially? Correct me if i am wrong?

Hello FBI

>Tell how
Am I stupid or is the book stupid?

I read once that it actually improved the youth's scores, but the normal children that have functioning brains don't like it.

Yes it slows down their ability to do math exponentially, my Sister to this day has trouble doing math because of the retarded ass way they taught her. You cannot carry Common core math into Algebra, Geometry, or any more advanced maths.

except every machine you've ever touched was designed by someone that knew calculus.

>Deus Oy gevult! goyim, why can't you use these (((techniques)))
Hey jew see

In theory, it seems good.

In reality, a bunch of stupid bureaucrats in Washington DC are deciding how exactly teachers should teach, when they have no teaching experience themselves and probably haven't walked into a classroom for ages.

Pre high school math is a great highlight of where it fails.

common core is what normal people with brains do in their head already, but translating it to paper is fucking stupid ,disruptive and inefficient.

The only way you get dinner at a public school is if you play football and your school has a very active booster program. T. -high school career tech teacher of 8 years in a particularly poor part of Georgia

Like many concepts in pubic education, common core was a nice initial thought that was funded and executed by people who have never been in a classroom a day in their lives. Sure, it would be great if I had a student who was in a marketing class in Colorado whose family transferred to the Air Force base here in Georgia, then he happened to be in the exact place I was with my own class - except that would never happen, ever, and unless we truly want to surrender all education to a national curriculum taught by automatons, it never will. Hell, I'm lucky if the kid in question was even in any kind of business class to start with, let alone marketing - i typically get transfer grades from something like art.

We can only do it in our heads and do it easily because we had the foundation we had. You can't rip out a foundation and expect everything to work the same. This rule applies to almost literally anything.

No way I'm going to put my kids in a school that teaches this crap. It's openly making them biased towards socialism and equality, and purposefully stifling logical thinking.

> pretty much child abuse desu

...

this type of debate always gets shut down by normies, because MUH CHILDREN.
by i fucking hate that parents are getting by with not paying for their children's meal, and they are allowed to pump out more.

I don't mind not letting children starve. but really? The parent can't scrounge up 2 dollars to feed their kids? That should count as child abuse, that's fucking appalling. What else does the government need to do now, wipe their ass? Brush their teeth and comb their hair for them too?
it's fucking pathetic.

Common Core isn't bad,
Common Core is based on how people do math in their heads.
I don't think it should be taught as the intro to math / the only way math is taught.
I've been good at math my whole life, the ideas behind common core I realized for myself and is how I do math in my head, which I'm sure most smart people have figured out.

Overall it's not bad, it's just a bit retarded sometimes.
