Of course I don't expect western media brainwashed contrarians to agree, but Japan really does understand how to make fiction way better. Western storytelling near invariably always feels like a shoddy prototype of whatever it is, despite the fact that in most cases it's something that's just being repeated for the millionth time. Japan repeats shit too, but every time they make a new series they improve and adapt. Western storytelling is stale and unchanging, likely due to how they worship the writing styles of old works with such a passion that they never move forward and remain stuck in a rut of anti-uncreative repetition. While Japan also repeats things indefinitely, things also grow and change, as well as the fact that they have a broader understanding of what themes must exist in a story. Comedy, Death, Romance, Sex, Seriousness, and Sensuousness must go hand in hand. The west has the extremely odd view that things can ONLY have a serious tone or ONLY be comedic or ONLY be "sexy". They stunt their own creativity with this self-maiming misunderstanding of storytelling. So, while Japan certainly has it's many flaws when working with media, there are important aspects they overcame or understand that the west can't even comprehend.

Nyarko still has those shapes, and like a hundred-thousand other names, and she physically prevents Mahiro from learning her real age, and she changes the subject when asked about the kind of acts traditionally associated with Nyarlathotep without ever denying anything. Sparing some decades to act a goof at someone who knows better until they fall in love in spite of themself makes Nyarko the single most Lovecraft-faithful character in the show.
