Not related but just some thoughts I had on the argument religion is necessary for morality.
If we take it for granted the religion, and the Gods are inventions of man, essentially every morally upstanding religionist is just being moral by an act of wise humans who created the belief system. This means that in fact, morality does not require a God, humans are capable of being moral on our own, through constructing moral frameworks and attributing them to a higher power. But the flaw of religions is they are becoming much less believable and disprovable. I'd say in the future the religion for white man is we return a form of hero worship who all should emulate and claim he was semi-divine. There was something special about that person which can not be quantified, a feeling. All morality would be based around these heroes.
I believe that in our most distant past, figures like Odin were actually real men, whose greatness inspired others ,and over time he became a God, but he was not once so.
These heroes will likely arise after our current age of darkness ends due to their efforts. Ultimately this should be good enough for society
