The EU spends 33% of what America spends on defense, but its operational capabilities are 10-15% of America. The only way to get to 40-50% of America's operational capabilities is by creating an EU military without massive parallel, inefficient structures. It also means increasing defense budgets slightly.
Now, how is that not something America should cheer on? It means that in future American wars, Europeans could actually make a significant contribution to fighting the vile, ragtag enemy!

I don't know but EU army is a meme. You can't have a miltitary alliance parallel to NATO command structure and you can't have an all-european army without an all-european military industrial complex. And that's not even considering how in 20 years tops there will be no EU at all.

As for Germany, we are the 3rd or 4th biggest weapons manufacturer and exporter on this planet. It's just that we choose to keep our actual military spendings as low as possible because we're sitting in the middle of Europe, surrounded by safe countries, so there's no point in putting much effort into our army.

I lived in Germany the last several years, been all over europe. Ive watched it go from the giddy exuberance and optimism when the cold war ended to the depressing minimum security prison it is today.
No matter where you go or what you do in some way shape or form you are watched. Nothing you do is private. Almost anything you do requires somebody elses permission. Even trivial shit costs money.
"Security" measures across europe instated by EU regulation are fuckin insane. For instance, anything not an incidental purchase requires that you ask your banks permission to withdraw the funds.
