Do you like dark fantasy?

Do you like dark fantasy?

Enough is enough, nigger. Stop.

Madoka and Berserk seem good.

Yes

Either dark, or high are both alright.
Any fantasy series based off of folklore, mythology, and legends of most areas of the world has my initial interest in that alone, the rest friends on the art/animation, character design, plot, etcetera...)

...

From those three only 1 is dark fantasy, which is Berserk...or better said it WAS Berserk at some point. Now Berserk is mainstream high fantasy.

GS never was dark fantasy in first place.

I would add Claymore to the list though.

We need more dark fantasy anime, like in 80s- 90's cyberpunk OVa, but with fantasy

I wish japs didn't put all those gamey things into their fantasy. All this "platinum tier adventurer" and d&d-like spell uses per day have to end, they completely ruin any mood a series could have potentially had.

I guess they think it helps the immersion because "see? it's just like your games!" but personally to me it totally breaks the immersion

Came here to post that.

>Berserk is High Fantasy now

You do not know what that word means.

Have you read Berserk lately? Right now its the very definition of high fantasy.

Its set on an original world, that alone would surfice but the characters and their quest is quite epic.

Old berserk you could discuss about if was more dark fantasy or high fantasy (it was both but there was room to discussion) but now the dark fantasy elements are gone so its pure high fantasy

Yeah.

Japs are autism incarnate. Whatever they do has to relate to some sort of tradition, custom, other works of fiction or media. God forbid you try doing something original, you weirdo.

Not like it's easy to make something that looks original. Usually something that we think is "original" is actually based on some sort of obscure thing that not many people know.

These types of manga/anime, however, mostly take elements from quite popular things.
For instance, from Dragon Quest, which is heavily influenced by Wizardry, which is influenced by several tabletop roleplaying games, including, but not limited to DnD, which is influenced by Tolkien and other mid-century fantasy writers. Which are, in turn, influenced by other stuff, and so on.

Could High Fantasy and cyber punk work? I'd imagine the setting being a typical Tolkien style world but somewhere along the lines an alien crashed centuries ago, used its advanced knowledge to become God and now they have all sorts of things like Heat Axes, Cross Beams(crossbows that shoot lasers), cybernetic implants, etc.

>Berserk
It's just a harem sol didn't you know

Shadowrun.

After the monsters started pouring in it became high fantasy. Right now it is really high fantasy.

Lot of ova back in the 90 were like that, mixing fantasy and tech, Millenium Dragon, Earth Survivor or Madara come to the top of my mind

define dark fantasy.

There is also Numenera where people live in a very distant future and have reverted to a medieval-ish culture. Adventurers discover magic stuff in ruins which are in fact stuff like bio and nanotechnology but to them is magic.

DARK FANTASY

And at some point we reach Gilgamesh which was probably based on something else too.

Fantasy works that contains relevant amounts of horror.

Actually, most horror stories could qualify as dark fantasy, since are based on supernatural stuff (that is fantasy) But for some reasons with the years "dark fantasy" is only applied to horror medieval or high fantasy settings.

Actually I love it

No, I hate it.

What said. Plus there's Black Lion.

Love it.

I prefer my Slayers shorter & stronger.
