Why is it that America is so bad at mathematics ? Our best academicians demolish every single one of your universities.
Our Ecole Polytechnique has at least twice the level in pure and applied mathematics your MIT does.
Why is America lacking so much in that domain ?

Australia, how about, "where do globally-known xxx live and work" the academics are all in the USA, Germany, or UK regardless of their birthplace.
Jackson Sanders
>Where was renowned (field of expertise born) ? >charts start at 4000 BC >America is 241 years old
DURRRRRRRRRRRRR WHY NO AMERICANS ON LIST LOL DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Mother fucking idiot.
Jacob Scott
No, nation of origin/birth. You can see this by knocking it back to just the year 1800, and UK France and Germany reign supreme. Also Ramanujan is a well known mathematician who has his origins in India but migrated to the UK before being well known, but he is represented in this data as an Indian. It is nation of birth.
It isn't for 'academics' but well know researchers in that field who have global recognition.
Connor Mitchell
Yo dawg. Mathz be all racists and shit.
Austin Roberts
Americans prefer physics and things like that over math. I blame the Einstein meme.
Nathan Thompson
Exactly, hence why the USA dominates later fields of research such as Chemistry and Computer Science, because they did not exist 300 years ago. Hence why the show up very little in philosophy, which you would expect HUUR DURRRRRRR, literally proving the Frenchmans points. Maths has been a field of study for over 2000 years hence why Germany and France are represented heavily.
Well done you figured it out amerifart

Look at where contemporary living high h-index academics work instead of birthplace of historical figures. All of a sudden, USA, Germany, and UK dominate above beyond any other state.
Elijah Jenkins
US universities and labs have lots of money, attract lots of people, and host most peer reviewed journal reviewers so that's not surprising. Truth is the best scientists are from US, Germany, France and UK. Each country has its strong points, and math is king in France (classe prépa etc...).
Luke Harris
You know I actually find it very funny.
France played a huge part in all the leftist shit like feminism, sjw, socialism, liberals arts, banning DNA tests etc.Everyone knows that.
Yet their best schools are stem orientated like ecole ploy and École normale supérieure (less so but still there) where arguably only the smartest get in.
How can a country that has stem as it's best program let itself be cucked by Liberal art brainlets?
Hudson Jenkins
It's quiet obvious, have you seen the level of maths they teach in schools there
Adrian Howard
>4000 BC - 2010 AD Was wondering why these charts look all wonky, until I saw that.
Dylan Diaz
>US universities and labs have lots of money, attract lots of people, and host most peer reviewed journal reviewers so that's not surprising. Yes >Truth is the best scientists are from US, Germany, France and UK. A lot of factors as why these countries trump others in mathematics
See pic related France had the highest population in Europe and a developed intelligent nation. Therefor they had more people to study and work of each others work (Note England has a mere 3.6mil in 1500 and Germany had close to Frances number yet still managed produce insane amounts of mathematics)
Although you are right France take the cake with mathematics, through my time at university it is French mathematician after French mathematician, and of course Germans. And special mention to Euler.
Hudson Perez
I don't think pure math is a particularly popular subject in the US. Even people smart enough for it would rather gravitate towards other subjects.
Do you have a source for that though?
Tyler Johnson
They are not wonky, the USA has just not produced a lot of well known mathematics in its lifetime (cultural output), chemistry and computer science on the other hand are different.
Alexander Ward
ITs only a a measure, its not to say any nation is bad at maths, just the invention of very popular theorems or parts of said subject (very little amount of people) but often these people have worked with allot of others.
Nathaniel Robinson
Agreed. In the last century, Germany and Britain are more populated though. It is the most likely reason. France managed to keep strong incentives for very high IQs to do research in math. Basically all our high level uni students do only intense maths for a few years (classe prépa for 2 years then Grande Ecole for 3 years, the former is 70% Math 25% Physics 5% Chemistry, the later they start to study engineering and other shit). As a scientist but not mathematician, I must reckon that math framework is pretty good to think, these guys are smart.
Ryder Davis
I can't verify op however if you look at the fields medal chart, France has good performance.
I dunno if it's the same now, but in France, it's actually considered prestigeous to be an engineer. The environment is there. Many of their prestigeous unis are engineering/math based. (Paristech, centrale, mines etc)
Juan Cook
Just a thought but the USA in the early years had no need for mathematicians as much as it did engineers and other such educations. SO maybe a culture started with less emphasis on mathematics academia. Probably changing now in the modern age.
Caleb Ross
It's literally niggers and spics. You know all of those slap your knee hyuck hyuck stat charts that mock the USA by showing them in 20th place for X academic pursuit and Finland or something in #1? Take out American blacks and browns leaving only whites and Asians and they rocket to 3rd or 4th in all fields.
Not "We're #1!" but still better than presumed. Of course acknowledging underperforming Afro and Mestizos Americans means that academia is racist and needs MORE melanin.
Sebastian Campbell
Common core. It was designed not to educate children but to make sure even the stupidest of nog could push their way to college to be indoctrinated by their liberal professors into the cult of progressivism.
Aiden Stewart
Mathematics are racist since nigs and spics are so bad at it.
Blake Rodriguez
Seems most of our math people decided to make an easy buck instead of slave away in universities.
Nathaniel Baker
Because america is a capitalist nation. There isn't a great deal of money in pure maths.
