Is Miyazaki creatively stagnant as an artist? His art style hasn't evolved at all in the past 3 decades.
Even Takahata, despite not drawing himself, has enough sensibility to change up his style every as time went by.
William Williams
What's wrong with consistency, op?
Jaxon Lopez
The future of kyoanus
Daniel White
It's boring. And extremely unusual. I don't think I've seen any artists whose style of drawing doesn't change at all in thirty years' time.
To be fair though, it's hard to imagine how Ghibli designs could have "evolved" without going into awful modern moeblob Kyoani territory.
Brody Martinez
...
Xavier Reyes
Nausicaa would make a fantastic mother.
Cameron Lee
I like it. There's no point in changing them.
James Morgan
I'd much rather have creative settings and developments than creative character designs to be honest, but that's just me. If that was a popular opinion no one would like KyoAni.
Elijah Flores
If it ain't broke
Christian Reed
Why does 1984 look better than 2013?
Chase Ross
>kyoani >sameface
Nice meme.
Colton Long
the hair and eyes in clannad are AWFUL
Gabriel Watson
>creative settings and developments >kyoani
Evan Diaz
Better coloring and linework, also being made with cels so the hues are more natural.
Leo Martin
Do you think he personally draws every single frame or something?
Ian Jenkins
It actually got worse
Grayson Baker
>cherrypicking >even besides that it all looks the same
Julian Foster
Oh yeah, because we all know character design evolutions are for the better.
Camden Walker
at least his style is distinct
Jackson Thompson
can't improve perfection
Isaac Sullivan
Why is she so perfect?
Carter Lee
But it isn't. It's all based on the style of Nippon Animation and the type of character designs that were popular from the 60s-70s. Only reason it's considered "unique" now is because it's outdated as shit and no one else is using it.
Camden Diaz
>Nippon Animation which a lot of ghibli staff worked on
Landon Harris
They used that type of character design well before Miyazaki even started working with them. Look at others like Toei and Mushi Pro around that same time period and you'll find similar types of character designs as well.
Chase Powell
>outdated
Not everything that's old is outdated. They still look fresh as fuck to me
Levi Allen
>it's hard to imagine how Ghibli designs could have "evolved" without going into awful modern moeblob Kyoani territory.
You answered your own question.
Asher Baker
that doesn't look like miyazakis style though
Jayden Mitchell
...
Dominic Miller
this, the designs were good but everything else was shit
Jack Hall
does Miyazaki even do the character designs or are you just assuming?
Jackson Fisher
That looks like every other modern anime character design with a pastel filter put over it you blind shit.
Joshua Brooks
It's a bad screenshot.
Matthew Adams
Why does everyone call this "Miyazaki's" art style, as though he were the one drawing it? Even ignoring , multiple designers from Ghibli use or have used this style - look at Kondou Katsuya's non-Miyazaki or even non-Ghibli works, they still have it.
Angel Evans
I like Ghibli's style because its round
anime art styles have gotten too pointy over the years
Jason Martinez
I like rounded character designs too
Adrian Sanders
One of those takes up a good chunk of the page and the other is a zoom in of a much smaller panel
Jason Moore
Hori is literally a Goddess.
Carter Rogers
Gotta add in time for IdolM@ster, user.
Give Miura a break, once you edge toward old age you tend to slow down on performance.
Jace Smith
How could you say that when she doesn't even look like the image you posted?
James Morris
How does she look any different?
Chase Kelly
>It's all based on the style of Nippon Animation You can say a lot about where Miyazaki's background comes from, but this is just wrong. Just compare Conan to other Nippon Animation anime of the time. Conan is more than recognizable as Miyazaki and yet is blatantly different to what else NA was doing.
Colton Rogers
His characters look similar to the direct Toei artist line though (Mori - Otsuka - Kotabe).
Also I remember reading some interview with Suzuki or whoever where it was basically said that Miyazaki was fucking jealous of Kondo because he had always been a better artist and animator than him lol
Jacob Lewis
that's not miyazaki but DAMN, do i miss those luscious 70s shoujo designs, whatever happened to michi himeno?
Adrian Powell
>Also I remember reading some interview with Suzuki or whoever where it was basically said that Miyazaki was fucking jealous of Kondo because he had always been a better artist and animator than him lol
Sauce?
Alexander James
Sure, I'm not denying the Toei influence, just pointing out that Miyazaki had established his style by then and it wasn't just something to ascribe to Nippon Animation like that.
Aiden Parker
literally shinka 3.0
Nathan Morgan
Literally not.
Adrian Wright
Wish I knew
Landon Phillips
>art style not changing at all is bad
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko draws like it's still the early 80s and his art looks all the more beautiful for it. Meanwhile, most of his contemporaries from that era aside from Mikimoto and Kagawa have all devolved to shit.
Jacob Martin
Fucking image orientation.
Alexander Rogers
Nagano has improved drastically and blows away pretty much every other character designer from the 80s now. Mikimoto especially has gone to shit with his sameface moeblobs. Kitazume and Shirow had it the worst though.
Justin Hughes
But the paneling in volume 1 is pretty clumsy. Great draftsman and animator he is, Miyazaki was never that great at manga.
Asher Rivera
The panelling in Nausicaa was always pretty clumsy, made even worse by the copious amount of speech bubbles taking up half the page. Miyazaki never really understood how to use still images to his advantage.
Luke Price
>implying she wouldn't abandon you in a heartbeat if it would please the Ohmu
Jose Baker
>copious amount of speech bubbles taking up half the page
Jesus, it's all coming back to me. Though I think he made good use of stillness when it came to action scenes at least. Like with Nausicaa jumping into the air right before she made her first kill.
Also, random question, but were the Heedra really about to rape her when they were tearing off her clothes? Nausicaa was always getting groped by tentacles and other weird shit in this manga.
Jason Parker
>were the Heedra really about to rape her when they were tearing off her clothes
No? They didn't have genitals or anything. They were just trying to rip her apart and she was struggling to get away from them.
Gabriel Sullivan
Seeing how one looks exactly like Minmay and the other doesn't...
Dominic Taylor
Yeah you're probably right, it's just my doujin-addled brain. Though I must say Nausicaa has a very fine rack.
Henry White
I wouldn't consider Nagano a character designer as I would a jack of all trades manga artist like Nihei. He hasn't really done much designwork for anything that isn't FSS either.
Sebastian Johnson
Miyazaki checks and corrects every frame that's why it all looks the same
Christian Lewis
look at you telling things how they are
Tyler Cruz
Me too. I really like it
Jonathan Butler
I wish he did more stuff with anthropomorphic characters.
Aaron Bennett
Fuck off, Hosoda.
Camden Roberts
>slightly less angular/narrow eyes >also slightly more wider, less angular jawline >less hylian ears >different haircut with only similarity being the long ponytails >expression looks more softer (at least going off by images)
Only thing remotely similar is the nose and mouth but those are pretty much a given considering this is anime after all.
Juan Peterson
Not him, but I still don't see how is anything like Ghibli's style.
Jacob Taylor
do you have an IQ of 45? Are you incapable of understanding a simple post such as ? Go back and read it very carefully you morons.
William Rivera
This is a non-issue.
There is no such thing as a moeblob.
Brody Rivera
>There is no such thing as a moeblob. Do not lie or Santa wont bring you any gifts
Christopher Anderson
>kyoanus defense force making up shit again
Alexander Jackson
read again this post you moron. The post an explanation of what it's saying. Hint: It's not defending kyoani
Oliver Robinson
>kyoanus >having creative character designs or creative settings
nice try faggot
Nolan Harris
I am not lying.
I simply stated the fact that moeblobs don't exist.
Hating Kyoani is a meme. People don't even watch their shows anymore, they just shit on them because everyone else does.
Kevin Cooper
>Hating Kyoani is a meme.
Why are you in so much denial Kyoanus licker?
Xavier Brown
I am not in denial and I am not a "Kyoanus licker." You are just a meme-spouting retard.
Dylan Rodriguez
It's fine - the style is easy to work with whilst still giving the characters the ability to emote well. Sometimes keeping it simple is just the best method for an animated medium.
Jack Martinez
>Kyoanus licker >calling someone else a "meme-spouting retard"
That's enough iron for a new hammer
Jaxson Morales
>I am not in denial
Lucas Roberts
>Kyoanus licker No I'm not.
>calling someone else a "meme-spouting retard" But you are a meme-spouting retard.
Eli Wright
Yes, that's what I said. What about it?
Cameron Rodriguez
>no i'm not >guys I'm literally 12 and what is this.
Ayden Thomas
...
Joseph Sullivan
Hm, he does do that a lot now that I think about it.
Hudson Long
I am not 12 years old.
I am not lying.
Jace Anderson
>What about it?
Are you retarded?
David Brown
I wasn't even trying to address that part of the sentence, but okay.
>It's fine - the style is easy to work with whilst still giving the characters the ability to emote well.
You can still evolve your style AND keep it simple at the same time, which is something barely any Japanese artist (not in gaming at least), even ones I like, have even a fraction of the competence or talent to do. Fuck, I believe one of the only examples of an artist I can recall able to do both is Shuichi Seki and Koji Morimoto
Ian Collins
>I am not 12 years old.
It's really sad you actually have to tell us that.
Juan Kelly
Are you?
Austin Russell
Are
Connor Richardson
You claimed I am, and I said I'm not. You brought up the subject, not me.
Bentley Cook
>kyoany >having creative settings
re-read again again this post Now tell me where that post implies or says that kyoani has creative settings and development
Joseph Turner
Yes, that is my post. What about it?
Logan Morgan
>Now tell me where that post implies or says that kyoani has creative settings and development
So you think they make good character designs? As expected of a Kyoanus licker.
Jordan Morales
You are a meme-spouting retard.
Christopher Sullivan
You're retarded.
Jordan Parker
>someone disagrees with my shit opinion >better call theme a meme-spouting retard
You sure live up to your name, Kyoanus licker
Michael Morales
No, you are.
You are a meme-spouting retard.
I am not a "Kyoanus licker."
Liam Nguyen
But you are.
And the biggest Kyoanus licker and meme-spouting retard.
Wyatt Gray
But I'm not.
You are a meme-spouting retard.
Luis James
Nuh-uh, YOU are a meme-spouting retard Kyoanus licker
