No other anime gets my blood pumping with excitement the way this show does.

Same. I always watch random Saki episodes and I get excited every time. I never feel like this with other anime. Maybe Saki is actually my true favorite anime

Over the top super powers are fun, but Mahjong isn't exactly suited for a sports anime.
The fact that Saki can make it look exciting at times is no doubt a great feat, but something like Ping Pong feels much more natural.

Ping Pong Girls is basically the same kind of show, but it rectifies some of the dubious features that always dragged Saki down for me, like the weird sport choice, or the gargantuan breasts on every other character.

I rewatched it not too long ago as well. The taisho match is great and I don't think anything will top that as far as Saki anime, but I also felt the first half of the show was sorta weak in comparison.

Three issues consecutive absence isn't something given away lightly, even for Ritz. So there has got to be some convincing reasons for it. Be it that Ritz has a lot of promotional art jobs for christmas, or that she is involved in LA adaptation in some way, or that there are other projects going about. Could be though that Ritz just really needs the time off for health issues.
