The holy trifecta of anime

The holy trifecta of anime.

If you are 18.

Serial Experiments Lain? More like Serial Experiments LAME shitsux

>Lain
>even close to the other 2
Stupid plebeian.

...

>saw Eva, thought it was hot garbage
>saw one episode of Lain, thought it was boring
>never seen Utena

Am I doing this correctly?

Fuck no.
Yes.
Yes.

>this thread

Giant fighting robots and Yuri shit . Lain is ok

The newfag trilogy

Evangelion isnt that great tho

>all of these children who hate modern classic Lain

what gives I said lain was the only good one.

>liking "deep" moeshit

Lain x Arisu is otp

Evangelion is perfect.

>one is not like the others

>A masterpiece by any standards
>Hipster choice #1
>Worst ABe

utena is overrated shit

Overrated but still good, let's be honest.

Pleb shit
Try putting some real shows like opm, mob psycho and ping pong next time you fucking shit taste faggot

Looks more like the Sup Forums starter guide for watching anything below surface level.

except you're still at the surface

>Eva: its watchable, I suppose. Kinda like drying paint
>Utena: the best here, still meh
>Lain: good for getting stoned and watching once, then never again

Eva was shit. Period. Utena wasn't terrible, but not that great. Lain was "meh"-tier at best. If you want to call something
>the holy trifecta of anime
then at least pick shit that people actually remember and are generally agreed to be phenomenally good.

>then at least pick shit that people actually remember and are generally agreed to be phenomenally good.
so, the 3 in the OP?

Yes.

Read this thread and then tell me if anything here is
>Generally agreed to be phenomenally good.

You'll never find anything that could be unanimously considered great, because people have different tastes. Half of Sup Forums thinks Eva is a masterpiece but I thought it was boring as shit.

No matter what you think about it, if you think Eva isn't generally agreed to be phenomenally good, I'd like to see what your picks would be.

What do you think is great?

Yea, because a ton of Sup Forums has shit taste and thinks shit like K-on is better than Cowboy Bebop because Bebop is "mainstream".

>1.51 MB
>garbage resolution
>garbage quality

K-On is better than Bebop though.

Rose of Versailles.
Ideon.
RahXephon.

Both are bad.

I can understand those who like them though.

The problem lies with comparison. Everyone wants to think their shows are the best out there so they get on to make absurd comparisons. You just can't compare/contrast a SoL series like k-on with something like bebop, yet both are good in their own right.

You must feel lonely thinking RahXephon>NGE
That's litteraly the 2nd time I read this opinion.

I found the real holy trifecta of anime

I just can't understand how retards like you think Eva was boring. Other criticisms of Eva may be valid, but it sure as fuck wasn't boring. What the fuck is wrong with you? Shinji is literally in a life-or-death battle by episode 2. There's a lot of shit going on with the characters, organizations, Angels and overall plot that you have to actually keep up with. At least there's a fucking overarching plot, with previous episodes affecting future ones. The REAL boring shit is shit like NNB and K-ON where nothing happens and it's just characters living their normal everyday lives, with a bit of humor thrown in. Christ.

Only teenagers think pew pew shit is interesting.

Nice strawman there, try responding to my post next time.

You really have no grasp over differences between genres do you? If you're watching SoL and expect life or death situations and far reaching plot lines then you're going to be disappointed a lot.

K-On!! is an artful Ozu-esque meditation on contemporary Japan. I wouldn't expect the common layman to understand.

>Only teenagers think pew pew shit is interesting.

Why the fuck are you watching anime then?
Go read books.

SOL is the pinnacle of anime

>SOL is the pinnacle of anime
Correction
>Good SoL is the pinnacle of anime

The Holy Trifecta of Steve Blum

Cowboy Bebop
Big O
S-CRY-ED

Pretty much, all of these are in my top 5.

It is pretty much a blander version of Evangelion. It's like someone wanted to make Eva, but tried to be safer on every level.

Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta.
Dennou Coil.
Sailor Moon.

Not everything made in the 90s were great, user as your list in the OP.

That's not Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon and Cowboy Bebop

I'm surprised there are people who seriously think that way. Not that SoL are bad but anime has much more to offer.

Which anime precisely?

There's a bunch of SoL I haven't watched but my 3 favorite would probably be Aria, NNB, Kinmoza.

Keion
Croisee
Tamako Market
Sketchbook

I watched only S1 of Keion and dropped Sketch because it bored me. But it was a long time ago and I plan to try again.
Croisee -> I put it on hold and... never finished it.
Tamako Market -> Couldn't stand the first ep.

It's like we have polar opposite tastes.

Even stereotyping it for the monster of the week format, it would still be really good monster of the week.

>Mechashit
>I agree, Dennou Coil was great
>Monster of the week mahou shoujo garbage

Your list is hit and miss.

>Internet was already a thing when I was born.

>The holy trifecta of overrated garbage anime.
ftfy

Unless you're over 60 years old, I seriously doubt you predate the internet.

What I meant was, when Lain aired people were starting to integrate internet in their daily lives and homes, and it was like a whole new world.. Or maybe Its because Im from a 3rd world country and shit got here late

if you want to stretch the definition a little Haibane Renmei and Akage no Anne are top-tier SoL.

I love Utena, but I'm not sure about Sup Forums opinion on it. Half of Sup Forums since to think it's overrated and the other half that it's bad, with only a few saying it is good. How can it be overrated then?

>image.jpg

E7 is better than NGE in every way. The series is everything the 21st century is about without allowing radical identity politics to pervert its message.

Utena is more interesting for its aesthetic than the series itself, which is something one could argue has merit.

Haibane Renmei is better than Lain in every way. Obscurantism is fine, a mess of loose ends that lead to nothing but aimless speculation are not. Gorgeous art direction though.
Haibane Renmei was basically a SoL up until when Kuu had her Day of Flight.

It would have worked exceptionally well as a SoL. Hell, episode 12 basically is a SoL.

>Utena is more interesting for its aesthetic than the series itself
fuck you

>sailor moon

If you think EVA is overrated, boy do I have a wake up call for you.

>Utena is more interesting for its aesthetic than the series
I'd agree for the movie but it's more like a cherry on top for the series.

Utena was shit.

what are you talking about? utena was awesome, blew my mind away with what a director could do with a 4 episode anime series

>E7 is better than NGE in every way.
this is some of the lamest bait i've ever seen
apply yourself

I wouldn't stretch it that far. Haibane is more about slow pacing than SoL.
I haven't watched Akage no Anne.

Except it actually is.

you're right, it actually is some of the lamest bait i've ever seen
apply yourself

>E7 is better than NGE in every way.

Newfag that didn't watch E7 because it's 'too slow' which is fucking ridiculous detected.

actually i watched all of E7
just like i watched all of NGE
which is how i know you're baiting, because nobody could actually seriously imply E7 and NGE have any similarities beyond giant living robots

I think pupa gave me aids

Anyone who uses "overrated" unironically is either shitposting or an underage b& with 50 anime watched. It's just a retarded term that means nothing besides "I didn't like it but Im too stupid to explain why". Theres more dignity in just going "it's shit" instead of the fags who think saying "overrated" is some sort of argument.

More liek the holy trinity of pretentious hipster bullshit

>no similarities
What the hell are you on, E7 was intentionally trying to be like a good handful of influential mecha series.

>That's litteraly the 2nd time I read this opinion.
Seriously? It comes up semi-regularly. It's certainly a minority opinion, but it's not super rare.

cool
but it doesn't deal with any of the same themes NGE does

>"overrated" means "I didn't like it but Im too stupid to explain why"
You're the stupid one here. "Overrated" doesn't even mean you didn't like it, it means "I don't think it's as good as general opinion says."

Yes it does. You're exceptionally stupid.

it doesn't though

Go rewatch them both, if anything too many people complain that it's an NGE clone.

i don't need to rewatch them to know they don't deal with the same themes
> if anything too many people complain that it's an NGE clone.
literally nobody does this
are you sure you're talking about the right anime

Are you? Is this elaborate bait?

i'm under the impression we're talking about eureka 7 and neon genesis evangelion

I am, now since you are behaving like you watched both around when they aired, I suggest you rewatch them both.

why don't you just point out the supposed shit they have in common because i still remember both series

So, people seriously argue that Lain isn't great? I find this opinion unfathomable.

Ok retard, so it means "I don't think it's as good as the general opinion but I can't explain why". Much better. The point is the term is often used by retards, not that the term itself is inherently bad. We all know what overrated means it just never provides anything in terms of productive discussion.

I'd agree with this if we're only talking modern TV stuff.

This is the truth.

Only Utena applies as superior anime taste. The others are fake deep.

Why is it that some people expect every opinion to come with an explanation? Is there something wrong with just stating your opinion without providing the reasoning?

No but there are much better places for you to do that than here like Twitter or facebook. Besides 'Overrated' is hardly even an opinion because it doesn't even show whether you liked it or not, just that you think other people like it too much. Like I said, the term itself is fine in context, but people who use it as a critique often have no real justifications for their opinion. If you want to just read random opinions with nothing else then go on social media.

Tell me that again in 2036.
