Be american

That's not it at all. This is a tax on the tuition waiver that grad students who teach or do research get.

The university comps the 80k in tuition or whatever, and then pays the grad student a stipend for food/housing/etc. That has always counted as income. The 80k was not because it wasn't "income" per se, but under the new tax plan it will be. Basically grad students used to pay taxes on just the stipend money while now they will need to pay tax on the waived tuition. Which really fucks them over as they will need need to take ~90k worth of federal taxes out of the 15k stipend.

Fuck em...I'll just use my GI Bill.

Good. The sooner the higher-education bubble bursts the better for everyone.

I considered law school until I realized that the oversaturation of lawyers in America make it difficult to actually find a job upon graduation.

That's why I got my a MS and an MBA instead. I did it in three years (like law school) and now make over $100k.

Good luck user in your future endeavors.

Most private schools have ways to get around it, which will result in lower acceptance rates and make them more prestigious. Public uni students will get fucked.
