>The average hourly wage for workers affected by the increase jumped from $9.96 to $11.14, but wages likely would have increased some anyway due to Seattle's overall economy. Meanwhile, although workers were earning more, fewer of them had a job than would have without an increase. Those who did work had fewer hours than they would have without the wage hike.
So can these crypto-socialist finally shut the fuck up? Even their utopia, the nordic model, has no minimum wage at all
Dominic Davis
>increase the amount you pay people >don't increase the amount they earn for you
pretty surprising that this didn't work desu
Ryder Carter
Don't worry, universal income is coming.

Is this surprising?
Nicholas Bennett
Not surprising at all. Whoever denies this fact should try an experiment. This: create your own state and conduct an experiment based on their ideology.
it could result into the exploitation of their own ideology, but it also can result into their embrace.
Jordan Martinez
Wow Shocker Seattle fucked up again

The trouble with all the "Feel Good" Socialism is that you still can't force someone to give you a job. You can't force them to give you one because not all labor is truly profitable.
Say you are a lumber jack. As long as lumber jacking is a tough job that few men can do, you will make decent money at it. If a bunch of robots can do the job more quickly, you will not make much money doing it. The wrench in the system is supply and demand. If the market is fully provided with lumber products, the customer can go to the nearest hardware store and get anything you can give them. You can't force customers to buy from you either.
This is why all forms of Socialism end up failing.
Jace Phillips
Its almost like people should have paid attention in their high school economics class or something
Joseph Price
Many people who believe in "Feel Good" Socialism don't want jobs. They just want the trickle down $$$ from those who do have jobs. It's the promise of socialism. Basically, they want to be full time welfare recipients because they're lazy. And if they are forced to work-- which they don't want to do-- they'd better be starting at a high wage, even for a menial job that takes no skills.

So, there's one part of this report I don't understand: "The study notes that like other research, including the University of California study, they found the minimum wage increase had little effect on the restaurant industry. "
Can a mathemagician with a doctorate in money explain this to me? Is it because restaurant workers (aka Tips) only have to meet the federal minimum wage that they're not affected? Or do they still have to meet state minimum wage? And when they say restaurant workers, do they mean people in the back who don't work for tips or only the front workers?
Dunno how tip-work works, so excuse my ignorance. I was under the impression that it doesn't matter if you don't tip because the employer has to pay them the minimum wage anyway.
Joshua Mitchell
the retards believe jobs exist to give them money, when reality is jobs exist to make the person you are working for money.

Economies are so complex that empirical economic research can find evidence to support any conclusion you want. This is why the Austrian school rejects such methods.

I can't wait for the minimum wage increase heading to Ontario. It's such a huge increase that the negative effects of the change will be too significant to ignore. They are literally going to prove how bad of an idea this is by simply doing it. Can't wait.
Jonathan Green
Of course, that is how it works.
