The war lasted more than 1 month only because the Anglos were afraid of the growing naval power of Germany and desperately fought with all they had to prevent France from falling in some months like they did in 1871. Without british involvment and later amerishit involvment the war would have only been a minor European conflict without major consequences for any country.
