An outsider like Tulsi doesn't stand a chance in the Democratic Primary. Trump won the GOP Primary for two very simple reasons, winner take all primaries and no superdelegates. Each state for the Democrats will split their delegates 5+ ways, allowing Clinton to create the illusion of an insurmountable lead from the overwhelming support of superdelegates and sitting Democratic Congressman. Both of these groups can't dare to openly defy her, because she will ensure they don't get enough money to run their own reelection campaigns.

It depends on the composition of the senate after 2018. Current senate is 52-48 which could easily become 51-49 after Alabama. In 2018 the dems have way more seats to defend, but realistically there's only 3 they can really lose. On the other hand, there are also 3 states the republicans can lose (4 if McCain fucks off soon enough). It's a toss up at this point what happens.

If the dems win the senate, Trump is fucked for 2020. He will have nothing to show for his 4 years and he'll be sent away.

If republicans keep the senate and get a moderate increase in seats, Trump has a real chance in 2020. He only needs a few successes. If he manages to repeal ObamaCare, push his tax plan and make a ceremonial start on the wall in 2019, that's plenty of campaign material.

Meanwhile the democrats are still struggling to find their voice. They have to decide who they want to be as a party and they're not doing a very good job at it. Identity politics has failed them (they seem to realize this) but they're not sure what to replace it with.

A strong, on-message Trump with a few successes to his name will be able to beat a divided democratic party. A weak Trump with nothing to show for his presidency will lose to literally anyone.
