The reason traditions have been kept until 1989 was to motivate the troops because of a potential conflict. There is no military in the world which could function well without any sort of traditions to keep the morale high. Once the conflict was gone and Germany was united under a common puppet master they could start with the Kalergi and Hooton agenda to the full extend. If you truly belive that the DDR was based then why are most of the traitors coming from there? Merkel, Kahane, Gysi, etc. all had their past in high DDR positions.

The only reason SPD is not in power is because of the CSU. If the CSU would ever split from the Union, the CDU would crash with no survivors.
