We have been demanding this accountability from the Evangelical right for years. That, to me, is a positive sign of progress. This is how coalitions begin.
Yes, 70 is a small number. It's not all of the clergy. But in a small rural town, it may be enough to swing a vote, or at the very least, give the voter permission to think twice. Churches and houses of faith can be big parts of the community. While I disagree with a LOT of what the church has to say lately, I also know that at the local level, many churches are the "first responders" when a member of their congregation faces a tragedy. They can organize to provide food and shelter quickly. The Catholic Church has actually been a consistent ally for DACA and undocumented immigrants. One could argue that they've done more for these kids than Congress.
I'm an atheist myself, but I recognize the need for Dems to enter these spaces and start connecting to people if they want to win more elections.
