I remember fast forwarding the sex scenes because the gameplay, characters and story got me hooked.

I only played Sengoku and Big Bang Age. I hated how you couldn't take your time and grind enemies. You had some kind of resource that ran out with every turn. I think I would have enjoyed it more if they took that out or just made it a pure VN.

Those are strategy games, the entire point is that you have to think instead of mindlessly grinding. Pretty much all of the Rance games save Sengoku and Kichikuou are JRPGs if that's more your schtick though, but even then there's rarely any need to grind even if you want to.
