The buried stockpiles in the afghan desert will still keep the world with a supply of heroin for DECADES. The only thing that will change will be the price. I was under the impression that almost all pharmaceuticals were synthesized in a lab and that raw opium is not needed to make opiates anymore and has been that way for many decades.
Both exist. Stuff like fentanyl is synthetic but organically sourced opiates still exist as well. Why spend lots of money making something yourself when nature can make it cheap and easy for you?
