But obviously because South Rus' fell under your rule and due to polonization, people changed. And even after the Commonwealth ceased to exist this region was like an arena for great powers and various interests. Austrians and Germans played big role in creation of Ukrainian identity, that was inherently anti-Russian.
Also Jews, being butthurt over Tsars, supported this notion, too. That's why it was the bolsheviks who actually enforced this identity over the masses, be it Poles or Russians. And that's why it is the Jews running the country, who continue ukrainization. Even though they don't consider themselves Ukrainians and this country their homeland.
