It's a perfectly fair complaint to make. Character art is what you're looking at 90% of the time in an anime. It's pretty important. And in this case, going back to Watanabe just makes it especially transparent that Zaregoto is only being produced now in an half-assed attempt to reproduce the success that the -monogatari series was.

SHAFT was interviewed and their comment was printed. They said on record that doing a 2 cour anime season was too much for them.

Actually more like "deadlines are just a suggestion". Because OVAs are literally more flexible, Shaft simply don't give a shit if they realise them late. Shaft release stuff late as their trademark at this point, you can't even get mad.

They could release them with imperfections. But one thing that keeps SHAFT in business is that their disc releases are generally good. The fact that they never release OVAs on time at this point is expected for everyone concerned, and budgeted for. Once it turns into a habit then it is a real choice.
