Rem killed Subaru for just leaving his room before the whole incident you described. She ripped off his arm in the dark before finishing him off. That’s the reason he knew to listen for “the sound of chains”. This incident alone cements Rem as an immoral person. Did I miss something here?

Actually she was forced to let SUbaru go to the royal selection by Roswaal's orders. If it weren't for her orders she would have manhandled Subaru like always. It was more shocking when she actually did allow him in the WN, because that was so unlike her.
