Natsume Yuujinchou

New episode, subs out.

I'm behind a few episodes but this season hasn't live up to previous ones if you ask me.

I thought it's been pretty good personally. There's been a couple slow episodes but 5-9 are some of the best in the entire series imo. The Natori-Matoba flashback episode is one of the stronger non-"youkai of the week" episodes. I'll be watching 10 later today.

I find it good, some QUALITY notwithstanding. It still has that charm and atmosphere.

I agree. A couple youkai episodes were great that were reminiscent of the first seasons, such as the towel one and least week's episode, but the rest have been ranging to decent to boring.
Despite being one of my favorite anime, this season doesn't even make my AOTS in a weak season.

This one was my favorite so far. The rest are mediocre in my opinion. I'm not expecting serious drama but the youkai of the week episodes are getting old.
I stopped buying the manga around volume 13 because of it. How long until we get a timeskip or adoption ending?

The towel one has probably been the best. It has the trademark Natsume elements of heartwarming, slow and sad.

I sort of agree. While I've immensely enjoyed all the episodes that DON'T have to do with the Matoba clan, the Matoba episodes just really ruin the season for me.

This episode made me want to watch the first season. In fact I hardly remember the beginning of the series, or how Natsume met Nyanko-sensei.

There's really not much they can do. The other seasons have been tip-toeing around the Matoba and the other exorcists and focusing on the standalone comfy episodes. It was inevitable that if they are to continue, someone has to pickup the exorcist drama stuff that the other studio didn't adapt.

I dropped it on 2 or 3.

Youkai politics isn't why I got into the series.

Touko with her hair down is too sexual. She's too pure to do it, but I bet a ton of young men at the place they were staying at were thinking of how to get into bed with her or to have some fun together in the bath.

IIRC wasn't it mentioned that Natsume had a lot of spiritual power? That was why he can punch spirits and temporarily disorient them, right?

He's probably at the same level as Matoba or is a threat. And the fact that he has closer relationships with youkai and ones that will probably go to war for him makes him an even bigger threat.

Considering her age and trusting ways, she probably assumes he a deeper connection to the world beyond and can vaguely see spirits/ghosts.

Touko is weird. She was feeling empathy for a random crow. I honestly have zero idea what she could be thinking at that moment. She could have known everything from the start, she could know nothing at all, but I know she would still treat Natsume like she always has. With Touko, it is a mystery.

She lives in a countryside and has almost no interactions with other people when her husband is at work. Can't blame her for talking to/getting attached to animals

I liked the exorcist episode about young Natori and Matoba. Some of the ones focused just on Natori aren't so bad either. The really shit ones are when Matoba plays a big role in anything.

I find most of Natsume's human friends episodes kind of boring, especially the ones involving Tanuma.
