because ant arc best arc

the 1999 version had better art. 2011 looks too bright and happy

What else did you expect from run of the mill shounenshit

> Why do people like this again?

Because people is shit

Because they are closet faggots for Kurapika

>Why do people like this again?
Shit taste.

>closet faggots
>closet

user, no one who watches this is completely straight

but he's a girl

also, he's only in 3 arcs. it's the fucking Gon x Killua shipping show

>wrong
>animeonly problem
>right
>half right
It's not that bad overall, it's a really good battle-shounen. I get hating hxh if you hate shounen shit.

No. Is boy. With much strong penis.

Because they like to pretend that they are smart for reading into themes that aren't there

what do you mean i thought i was really good and suspenseful

>Because they are out of the closet faggots for Hisoka
FYFT

Shit Worldbuilding: Nen is the best magic system in a shonen. Chimera ants are the best monsters; powerful, intelligent, and creepy in regard to their origin, extremely versatile, to a greater degree than traditional monsters such as zombies, werewolves, and even vampires.
Shit Pacing: 1999 covers four arcs in 50 episodes. Unheard of in a long running shonen.
Shit art: See pic.
Shit plot full of asspulls: Alluka and Gummy nen are the only ones you could argue. Some 20 years after the manga started. Battles are won through strategy and creativity, rather than through power level, to a greater degree than in almost any other shonen.

Gummy nen is not that much of an asspull. Had Togashi written things to make it so Hisoka revived after 5 minutes instead of 30 it would be somewhat believable. The biggest issue is that it doesn't make any sense biologically, not that it happened.

>Chimera ants are the best monsters; powerful, intelligent, and creepy in regard to their origin, extremely versatile, to a greater degree than traditional monsters such as zombies, werewolves, and even vampires.

Holy fucking shit user, werewolves, zombies, and vampires have all been humanized by different authors, tv, and films decades before Togashi's man bear pig race was even though of; you couldn't be more wrong if you tried.

>Naked Kurapika wrapped in chains

brb, going to watch the 99 version

HxH has a collection of top tier boys doing cool shit without any shitty female characters anchoring the them down with their dead weight, and high pitched shrieking. Its fucking paradise.

>Decide to start watching the anime randomly when I saw it on netflix
>doesn't even have the whole show
>finish watching online
>start reading the manga when I finish
>immediately after catching up it goes on hiatus

...

the 90s anime has some really beautiful stuff in it but the manga's art is underrated

yeah some of the really rushed stuff that gets redrawn for the volumes is obviously sub standard but even the stuff that's not rushed gets shit on because it's sketchy when it's obviously skillfully drawn & fits the action well

There's really not that much you can do with a zombie; they're dumb, weak, and if you've seen any Romero movie you've already seen the Walking Dead or Resident Evil. If someone really wants to spice things up they'll make them fast like in 28 Days Later.

Werewolves are boring, particularly the ones that are entirely feral and unintelligent post transformation.

Modern vampires are a complete mess that scarcely qualify as monsters, in large part due to the attempt to humanize them into glorified Marvel mutants that you mentioned. There's a lot of historical lore to draw from something that can exist for so long, and you could potentially do a lot with them from a religious angle; analyzing Bram Stoker's Dracula, the original novel, from a Christian perspective is interesting, since there's all this stuff about temptation, false immortality through drinking the blood of Satan rather than of Christ, along with the fact that they are essentially a more physical manifestation of the devil's power than what even demonic possession offers. Too bad they've been secularized to such an extent that all of that is basically gone.

Chimera Ants are impressive not because they can be humanized, though Togashi handled that very competently as well, but because he was able to use them to tell a story about inter-species conflict that largely summarized what has been humanity's relationship to everything else on the planet. They're stronger than us but humanity is more ruthless and ingenious, and much of our benefit stems from their loss and vice versa. Can't do that with something undead, but the way in which they're made still evokes that same creepyness and closeness to death that zombies and vampires do at their best.

it doesn't even look happy it just looks bleached out when there's light and smeared with mud/not-mud when it's dark. there's some good animation work in the new HxH and in fact that gif people keep comparing to the 90s gif has good use of cheap limited animation (while the 90s one has good use of fluid more expensive animation) but the art direction is pretty ugly

Ushio & Tora has the same problem but more in your face computer effects, really out of place for a manga with scratchy hot blooded art

This. People just like to pick out the below average stuff so that they can keep up the " dragon quest-bad art" meme, but its not that bad,and the stuff that is bad gets fixed later anyways...

I believe a lot of people can't think of the reasons the art is part of their enjoyment or properly word them thus they say 'I'm ignoring the art and only keeping up with it for the writing'

shit like paneling, design, composition, posing etc can have a subconsciosu impact on your enjoyment

The early arcs are really varied, it feels like a variety show shounen. It's a lot of fun. And then later it slowly becomes more focused and tense.

Basically the show has got a lot of appeal, so everybody can enjoy parts of it

This HxH was better when it was dark and gritty meme needs to die. HxH tone and mood shifted constantly in the manga and 2011 did a decent job of capturing that.

I think 99 has better art for locations and backgrounds but 2011 has better character art.

Yea but it's a hell of a lot better than JoJo.

Especially part 3. It's just lame fight after fight. When does anything interesting happen.

You just got annihilated by this guy:

I wish I was enlightened and witty like you, user!

This. The series doesn't have very many female characters, and even the few that it does have are based as fuck. That's so fucking rare for a battle shounen.

>2011
>good character art
Killua was drawn as a moe blob, Gon was anorexic, Kurapika was just fucked up, and the coloring was jarring at times.

Character art was one of 2011's major weaknesses.

The Chimera Ant Arc could have been far worse in both the manga and ainme, if you just made it monster of the week.

Don't know about the show but the ending theme is pretty neat

People will meme about screamo, but I agree

>Killua was drawn as a moe blob, Gon was anorexic, Kurapika was just fucked up
Not only are you fucking blind, but you taste is shit

>the coloring was jarring at times.
1999 colors schemes was just plan awful
>Brown hair Phinks
>Tonpa wear dogshit brown
>Hisoka in general
Only good color scheme is purple hair Machi

so like, does the manga still look "barebones" for lack of better wording.

from the screens I've saw, it looks really empty in some frames.

It had the best Hisoka, though.

Actually no, 1999 version is more serious and the character design and soundtrack were better.

2011's character designs are more accurate to the manga but I prefer 1999.

>2011fag
>claiming anyone has shit taste.

It's hard to say unless you specify what you mean. Is it the lack of backgrounds that you don't like? Because the recent arcs (CA onward) definitely improve on that.

thats exactly what I mean. It looks kinda like he had a deadline due in a week so he sped through the entire thing.

like it kinda lacks polish

>1999 fags thinks their shitty character designers actually look good

Exactly what happens. Mangaka is a piece of lazy ass cunt.

I love posting this image. You have to pay attention to understand a lot of this. Nanika's wish granting comes with a price; if she didn't just poof away Gon's nen, she had to transfer it somewhere. Where that somewhere is, is anyone's guess. Don't be surprised if we see something or someone with Gon's dark aura and nen by extension.

at least Jojo threads arent THIS retarded :^)

Let me resume in one phrase. In any other shonen anime, this girl would be the mc of the serie.
