Florida has cops who will physically remove visible homeless people. There are plenty of tent cities, but they’re out in the swamp, out of public view. There were two or three on the fringes of Gainesville while I lived there, but you would never have known it unless you knew where to look or had friends in the police department.

They defecated/urinated in the bushes nearby, including trespassing on a dentist office to hide in his bushes. They stole his electricity by charging their smartphones, stole his water to shower, peed in plain site during the day, trespassed at a house nearby to steal things. Used needles everywhere. Part of the reason they come here is drugs. Tolerant culture in WA/OR/CA, mild climate, no snake/mosquito issues like FL. Its horrid.

My first place was in Westland and I bought my first house in Dearborn Heights. Needless to say, I live way outside the Metro area now. The inner ring is disgusting.
There was gaint one in the woods by the homo depot and train tracks, but the department of health, broke it up gave everyone 1 year rent free somewhere in Ann arbor, it was a big story. My ex's brother was going to live there, but I took him in under my wing and gave him decent shot at making a living.
I know this because they steal my fucking batteries all the fucking time and the Westland police just file paper work. They use the train tracks to travel undetected

No one starves to death, and if you have somewhere to live it's a huge pain in the ass and can take years to get evicted (and they have to start all over again if you ever give them any money during the process), but public housing can have long waitlists (housing projects were declared racist and all torn down) and there's a complicated priority system with single white males at the absolute bottom and pretty much all of the other gibs are only for women (with the few left over being for spics and/or niggers)

These cities specifically have taken that exactly that approach, hence their being flooded with folks using those services.
They have effectively subsidized homelessness. Hooray.
The opposite approach is fining people who hand them money, and constantly preventing them from setting up tents and loitering on property they do not own. Cities that take that approach don't have the same problems we see in Portland, SF, and Seattle.
