UNIRONICALLY THE BEST LOVE STORY EVER TOLD

whats wrong with his face

BROTHER LOUIE...

I finished this yesterday. I really don't get what the big deal it. It's by no means bad but it's just your regular cliché "harem where the obvious main girl wins"

Yeah I'm with you I think I went in with too high expectations.

The start really was great, but it sort of fizzeled out.

taiga a CUTE
a CUTE!

I think a lot of people, me included, love it for how well the characters were fleshed out and how the story was told.

The end was pretty obvious from the beginning, but getting there was the good part

WRONG

ATLANTIS IS CALLING

S.O.S FOR LOVE

>fleshed out
Like Kitamura and Ami?

Why is the second OP so bad?

It's a pretty good song, better than the meme first op.

I listen to silky love very often.

>harem
Not really. There are only 3 girls in it and not all of them even like him.

I think the effect depends on your social context

Why is Vanilla Salt so good?

It's a generic sappy song that comes after a fun song, just like the two halfs of the show

What do you mean?

If the characters or things that happen are relatable to the individual, it is bound to be more effective in impacting said individual

Well that applies to literally anything, I thought you meant something more specific

>how well the characters were fleshed out

Please user, you're embarrassing yourself

Its not bad imo, its just the first one is really really good and the second does quite meet the standard it sets

Even the comedy relief characters got added depth in the end

I'm not sure that being able to relate to the characters is one of the biggest factors, I personally couldn't really relate to any except maybe a support character and I still loved the story and relationship built

doesn't*
That speech sent a goddamn shiver down my spine man, I love what they did with the teacher towards the end

I read the books and rewatched the series, the characters are really shallow, as is the problem with all LNs, the characters depth only comes from interactions with the other characters, just take the 2 main characters for example, what do we know?

>Taiga

>Father abandoned her and she moved out
>likes kitamura
>...

>Ryuuji
>likes to clean
>Looks like yakuza, making people scared of him, when he's shy
>likes minori
>...

I mean that's all well and good when it's a romcom for the first few books/episodes, but when they go in a more serious direction, there's no enough to make a normal person care about the characters.

The only character with decent development is ami, the rest only begin to get developed by the ski trip arc, and by then it's too late.

(the anime ending was good though, the book ending is shit)

how does the LN end?

The first op is unlistenable.

I don't know. I still think there are tiny facets to them that are a bit deeper than just those face values.

For example, that Taiga likes Kitamura is debatable, as it's more like she yearns for someone to rely on, and to rely on her, and since he's the only one who's shown affection, she sort of latched on to him.

This comes to show later on when she realizes her feelings towards Ryuuji and completely ditch Kitamura

As for Ryuuji I think there's also more depth there. For example, his social context of growing up without a father is sort of the reason for him to care so much for Taiga. Also his troubles about his future as a result of caring for his family and such.

it's catchy

Captcha keeps telling me to identify all the sushi. What does it mean by this?

Vanilla Salt is the best song attached to this show.

The fucking piano outro that they use for some eps is fucking heart wrenching

Too bad it doesn't exist and isn't on the OST

>For example, that Taiga likes Kitamura is debatable, as it's more like she yearns for someone to rely on, and to rely on her, and since he's the only one who's shown affection, she sort of latched on to him.
but she liked him even before he confessed, she just dropped her spaghetti and said no

You didn't watch Gosick, did you? That's a better love story.

They kissed on the bridge, went to the parents house, taiga transfers out(with implication she'll be back), everyone lives happily ever after. The end.

They changed a lot of minor details in the anime ending, which made it much better. I could tell the author was really struggling to pad the pages.

I disagree with your points about taiga as said here. She did love him(at least it's not explicity said she didn't)

As for Ryuuji, you're right, but it's ami's development that brings about ryuuji's development when she tells them to stop playing house. Ryuuji get's developed a lot more later, when he yells at yasuko for trying to force him to go to university.

Now Minori, THERE'S a 2d character if I ever saw one, Ami is the most developed by far.

I really wish they did more with Minori, she's just so out of place in a show with mostly normal acting characters

Which one is Vanilla Salt?

At work so I can't look em up

also yeah it sucks that piano outro is great

RYUUUJIIIII

About the same as the anime, the only thing that has a different ending is the PSP game, which has Taiga/Ryuiji getting married, moving to Italy with Ryuji becoming a successful interior designer, and Taigia getting pregnant with triplets

Yeah she didn't really get any arc, even if she didn't get one it would have been nice if she was something other than generic bubbly friend

what?

...

>Baka-inu isn't a house wife while Taiga works

Dropped

>interior designer
It's kind of fitting but also really fucking gay

I think I would have gone with like master chef/own their own restaurant approach, but I guess it works

having to become a chef would be a fate worse than death, I'll take interior designer of chef any day

Haha, I was just talking about what would more fit his character. I would too, more money in it anyway

Well I mean with that big speech he gave at the end of the anime about working to support his family, it was kind of a given

plus Taiga too delicate to work

>too delicate to work
>but can have triplets

Incorrect
Ami > Taiga > minorin

Taiga was the best fit for the MC so it made sense why she won. Ami is going to need a man with actual balls.

What was this speech about? I don't remember, was it after Taiga left?

Ye, I think it was about taiga iirc

Just fucking kill yourself.

That's peoples biggest problem with that ending, but the developers were directly referencing the dream both had around the middle(?) of the anime, where they dream of having a 'litter' of puppies(kids)

files.catbox.moe/wna5bv.webm

>mfw this kicks in at the end of an episode

Yeah, it was right after Taiga transfers out and the students were upset

It was about how everyone will make different choices and go down their own paths etc

It was really good desu, I loved they added it to her character

BANIRA

This is the correct opinion.

Can someone explain why they like Ami so much? She seems like a manipulative cunt for a majority of the anime

Because she's the most grounded, genuine, and realistic character in the series. She does well to maintain a clear head and doesn't spontaneously get all melodramatic like all the other characters. She also grows as a character while everyone else seems to regress. Also from what I understand the dub version makes her considerably unlikeable

What. She's literally the exact opposite of a manipulative cunt. The only thing she tries to manipulate is Ryuuji's dick and that applies to pretty much all 3 main heroines.

Outside of his dick she's by far the most blunt and straightforward character there is. While Midorin and Taiga are throwing autistic shitfits and crying in a corner and hiding their feelings, Ami is strutting around telling them they're all fucking retarded and trying to get them to open up to each other.

Yes she puts on a pretty face for outsiders, but when it comes to her friends AKA the main 5 characters, she's the most 'true' character there is.

Honestly Ami was/is the best girl. Taiga is a needy bitchy little shit and Midorin was autistic and a drama whore.

The truth has to be told sometimes. I never got, what people find in this anime worth watching, and i never will.

I've only ever watched the dub, so yeah, that's probably where I got my impression, but atleast in the dub she definitely isn't potrayed as down to earth/genuine, as she always has a mask on that rarely comes off when talking to Ryujii

Maybe one day I'll watch the sub, prob not tho, I love English Tiaga's voice too much

fpbp

Ami is beating around the bush constantly. She knew everything all along, yet she's being extremely vague when speaking to Ryuuji about it

It's worth watching for the characters and interactions but it's overrated for sure. The romance aspect is extremely shakey if you think about it and puts serious doubts on how genuine the ryuuji/taiga relationship is but it was still fun to watch it play out.

Ami would have been best for ryuuji to grow as a person but he's really not that great for her

>(the anime ending was good though, the book ending is shit)
Anime ends with 1 year of no contact, LNs end with 6 weeks of no contact.
Anime ends with a headbutt, LNs end with an embrace and hand holding.
What exactly is there to like more in the anime ending?

This show fucking destroys me.

>mfw being reminded how much i wasted my youth

That's still leagues better than what the other characters are doing. It would also be extremely unrealistic for her as a human being to just spell everything out for everyone and would probably be very harmful for the plot. She at least does her best to guide everyone to the truth until she hits a wall and then gets extremely blunt

Considering everything Ami says is abundantly clear to the audience it's just as much Ryuuji's fault for being too dense to understand it or more likely the plots fault for needing it to be less direct.

>2008+8+0.99
>Still not loving best girl Taiga.

How did people not she that taiga wanted him since the beginning, and vice versa?
It was super obvious based on how they acted around each other

MY SHILKY LUV

Orange is the best Toradora song and if you disagree you're objectively wrong.

Are we going to have another stream this year?

The year after I had finished the series, listening to Orange would make me cry.

The anime ending is not 1 year, not sure why people have this misconception

I still got chills every time Vanilla Salt would start playing after a big drama moment during my third rewatch.

Orange playing at the end of ep 24 made it amazing
Also the lyrics are pretty great too

We already are

It's obvious based on the intent of the series. However based on their actual interactions and backstories, close scrutiny would suggest that they're using each other as surrogates for their damaged families and fear losing each other due to other romantic partners. It's not until the idea is fully memed into them do they finally act like they're romantically interested. This happens in real life too and is relationship poison

WON'T LET YOU GO

I DON'T KNOW

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE

I'm not talking about why they got together, I'm talking about physically how you could tell that they were into each other since really early on. I think the family stuff is true too but way overblown, I think that's a smaller part than people make it out to be.

Because it is one year. Taiga leaves at the end of their second year, comes back on graduation day. That's a year.

For a number of character inconsistencies. Both of them get extremely flustered around people they're attracted to. Ryuuji is especially defined in this way since you see with Ami, as soon as he no longer sees her in a romantic light, he immediately treats her as a normal person. It's not until he sees taiga in a romantic light that he starts getting flustered and stuttery. This really does heavily imply he did not see her in a romantic light until it got memed into him by his friends. Taiga's daddy issues are pretty pronounced. There's other details but it's been a while since I watched

Man I literally just finished it for the first time 2 days ago and I already wanna rewatch it

The whole running plot of the story is that they aren't aware of their feelings for each other. Kitamura recognizes it in episode 2, for crying out loud.

Does he? How?

Minorin saw it too and Ami figured it out

I think you can chalk him get flustered around Taiga was more embarrassment than him being anxious about talking to her since he's fine for all their interactions afterwards. I take his gradual disinterest in Minorin as him starting to realize he has feelings for her. You could argue that he dropped her once he got rejected but he really didn't have any concrete evidence of her feelings either way, even though i think he suspected it. I'm not saying Taiga's daddy issues aren't pronounced, I just don't think they make up as much of her relationship with Ryuuji as people think

When Taiga confesses to Kitamura in episode 2, her "confession" consists of her rambling on about the things Ryuuji has done for her. I don't have the series on my main hard drive at the moment so I can't quote it, but if you want to read the same excerpt from the LN, here:
baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Toradora!:Volume1_Chapter6
Just ctrl+f "Even though she couldn't" to start at the scene.

Except all these characters and just about everyone at the school is basing this purely on the fact that they spend so much time together, not because of some sort of special visible attraction. You could literally take out any special romantic attraction and all the characters would have come to the same conclusion

files.catbox.moe/zr2pzw.webm

>basing this purely on the fact that they spend so much time together
No

They come off as way closer than just friends though, them spending lots of time together is just a reflection of this. Ever since the villa I think their friends figured out what they were really feeling about each other.

>lost my pieces
