I'm going to ignore your assumptions and generalizations of "we all dislike (insert trendy topic here)" and focus on your anti - government rehtoric. Traditionally, governments are meant to represent the people they are elected by. Smaller more localized governments would perhaps mean less intrusion in our daily lives, more ability to control the people we put in charge. However this is no longer possible due to the power gap the USA has filled, and needs to maintain, at the threat of nuclear/economic/military superiority of other countries without the label of democracy at their forefront. In other words, we pretend to be the good guys but at the same time are forced to save face. Other governments don't have to save face, so imagine if they had more power. Our current government is a necessary evil for the times. The only thing we can do is protest peacefully en masse, and take action in who we elect. But this would require mass organization, deterrence of internal and external instigators, and monetary resources, something the average American does not have.
