And all of that is just as good at it could possibly get.

Obermann is an admitted toxic personality type, who in his own words "napalm bombs bridges rather than simply burning them".
His firing from MSNBC was due to a couple of factors (jealousy over other on-air talent getting more publicity/promotion from the network, him spending the bulk of 2010 playing hooky and not doing his show while milking sympathy for his dad's death to avoid having to go on the air every night at 8PM, getting caught giving huge donations to Democrats running for Congress against MSNBC rules).
The final thing didn't get him fired outright, but was the final straw.
