Orcs already existed, they are based on the Latin Deity "Orcus" that was the God of the Underworld that somehow ended up in Beowolf as evil spirits, Tolkien based A LOT on Norse Mythology.

Considering Goblin, Orc, Ogre many times meant the exact same thing ... its kinda hard, the "pig-like" is a more recent invention, likely from D&D that also shameless rip-off Tolkien very hard (heck they even used Hobbits and other Middle Earth things back in their easier days, that was before They Sue Regularly and of course the current Wizards of Hasbro)

I'm just telling you what I've heard. I mean, he was called The Necromancer for a reason.

I feel like I read something about him regretting it a bit. Since he was Christian and felt bad about an entire race being beyond salvation/ or whatever it is Christianity is about in that regard

But in that same vein, I remember hearing he likened the creation of an orc to a fly or maggots or something (i.e. not undead beings).

Plus, necromancer was more akin to like warlock, sorcerer, and such well before D&D tried to put everything in a box, or something of that sort.

There is some clear good vs evil, but it's mostly the godly powers that fit into this. Mortals could be wrong, at fault, err. For instance calling Tolkiens elves mary sues gets them wrong, because they could do bad, despite being one of the good races.

That was one of the many versions Tolkien had worked out. It was the one that made it into the Silmarillion, which is the reason it became somewhat canon.

There are so many things to wrap my head around, and I refuse to.

It's split between three sets of MCs. The "main" main character is Shinobu, the boy in that pic. Another set is Detective Hayabusa, Shinobu's police uncle and his stalker loli Enbi. The last set is the supernatural assassin Mai, who is Enbi's older sister and her partner the Sunekosuri, who is a harmless little dog youkai.
It's an urban fantasy mystery series with some romance mixed in, I'm not spoiling anything past that.
