often what happens is provider #1 moves in somewhere and takes over a market, it wouldn't make financial sense for provider #2 to move in, lay all the infrastructure and only maybe get half the market. much easier for them to go to the next town over, where provider #1 isn't and get 100% of the market. when everything around gets filled, maybe they start moving into places that already have it, but not while there's free profit elsewhere. in most places there really is only one or two decent choices. small guy providers just can't keep up and get pushed out by the multi-billion dollar conglomerates.
Numbers show that there's only 10 providers in the entire country that have more than 1M subscribers.

3 companies own something like 85 % of the backbone in the US. they can enforce whatever the fuck they want and the downstream ISP's just have to deal with it. any throttling that will eventually take place will probably be passed down from Tier 1 to local provider to consumer. Access plans won;t be dictated by specific ISP, unless they call a no-man's-land and agree to independently determine access packages downstream of the backbone. Even then , any such agreement will likely have some sort of minimum structure requirement.

What I don't understand is, why are telecom corporations still being able to merge together under NN?

I was using my unlimited data plan with Verizon hotspot for awhile and they sent a letter saying I qualified for the program. I went about 4 months doing this so I wasn't a "current customer".

Pretty much any problem that occurs is due to data being sent to me getting routed through a shit peer like cogent. I don't want my flawless line quality fucked with by ATT. They are shit and they WILL fuck with it.

Historically RR/TWC/Spectrum has never complained about running servers. Will even allow SPF relaying through their outbound mail server so you can send mail from your home servers without getting cockblocked from the dynamic IP blacklist. They have never sent so much as an E-Mail for running FTP servers or seeding torrents 24/7. If it weren't for the pedos we'd still have rr usenet servers.

Also for large email blasts I was told to use Group Mail which basically drips an email every 5 seconds - or something like that.

Not if you use private trackers and your client supports protocol encryption. The SoCal division of RR doesn't seem to shape torrent traffic at all. Your main concern wouldn't be traffic shaping, but copyright trolls. I think I tested it with encryption enabled/disable a while back and didn't ever notice a difference in network performance between the two.
