>Shinkai says "Two years was not enough," and says the film feels "incomplete" and "unbalanced." He adds, though, that "the plot was fine."

Is this some sort of post-ironic reference?

Sounds like a case of excessive self-consciousness.

>moden anime is BAD!
No Miyazaki thinks old anime is bad too.

Shinkai is fucking based.

Oh, then I agree.

He's right. All anime is bad.

Why aren't you plebs watching Kurosawa and Ozu?

the irony is that while he understands how his own artistic vision just isn't as mechanically complex as Miyazaki's the fans and detractors of either/both don't understand it in the slightest and will attempt to rationalize their halfassed bottom line feelings with nonsense logic while sidestepping any coherent discussion of the art in question.

I think he likes Takahata's stuff though

>and even says he's hoping your name. doesn't net him an Oscar
He's in luck, because they won't give him it.

He's just bitter.

I'll be surprised if it gets nominated to be honest familia

That's pretty insulting to the audience. If people like your work, there's no reason to be anything but grateful.

Takahata rightfully meets his high standards.

>the next Miyazaki

He probably just want to make a good career and not be some kind of figure or icon.

Nobody wants that pressure

If your work is considered perfection, you can't grow up as a artist

And if it does get nominated, you know the judges' verdict:
>Oh, an animated movie? I haven't watched it, that shit is for 6-year-olds.

Shinkai not giving a fuck unless he gets to produce another movie just makes him even better.

If people attempt to make him out to be the next Miyazaki or Satoshi Kon, he'll respond in kind again by tearing your hearts to pieces like with his earlier works.

Anyone with that sentiment probably wouldn't even vote. With Disney having 2 movies out and Pixar in this year, there's just no way. It's a popularity contest. There's also Kubo and The Red Turtle that will be enough to make a nod for Japan.

How broken he would be if he actually win the oscars or beat Spirited Away.

>g-guys, keitai was a mistake
he's totally trying to sound like the old man now

...

Already a thing.
