Even though Bones did a good job with the Mob Psycho and Boku no Hero adaptations, this scene alone will always make me hold a grudge against this studio.

Then when i got into manga i realised that they skipped alot of good things like the Book of Eibon arc, and the battle of the moon. This anime could have been one of the best in its genre too. Everyone else spent all their energy on super fighting the bad guy, which played into his fear and paranoia, the twisted psychology that empowers him and, by the end, had become the force that gave him form. Maka hit him in that psychology with her "courage" speech, and managed to crack that mad ceritianty, which, as a being of madness, destroyed him.

I didn't watch much of the anime, but Shaman King's got shitcanned before it ended (and then revived due to fan support), so I'm not surprised if the anime had a shit ending.

I wanted more explanation as to how things worked, god/embodiment system, maka's mother being MIA, why her family line has that one spell, more madness expanded upon (it was a short lived power up, never resulted in lasting consequences), do something the the primary casts relationship etc.

You can view it as well written with all the exit options laid out, just not the ones you'd often take. Sacrificing magic use, being able to go through another door etc all things not explored in the series, but we know they are there. The main thing I hated was everyone getting their souls back, everyone should be fucking dead, they had like 30+ minutes of no soul (many do die, crashes etc).
Beating father was well planned and executed, but also came out as one of those 'win because ego of bad guy makes them not plan for everything'.

Eh, OP has 'power scales'. Story tends to choose when or where people loose (or kizaru would pew pew lazor into everyone's head). Asspull/contrivance is everywhere if you view swordsmen as bullshit because they can cleave steel/stone at a distance, but can't cleave groups of people.
Many more combat examples as well, reading OP you just accept that the plot and current arc theme will take precedence over logical combat. Everyone is sequentially as powerful as they need to be.
