GeGeGe no Kitarou

毛羽毛現 (Keugegen) by Shigeru Mizuki, originally published in Weekly Shonen Magazine, 1967.11.12

this is the first story published under the name GeGeGe no Kitarou, picking up immediately after Hokuto no Gun/Happy Scan’s translation of Kitarou of the Graveyard (vol 4-7) from Weekly Shonen Magazine.

Vol 1-3 were the Kitarou Night Tales short stories from 1967.06~1969.04, published in Garo.

I have no idea how to clean things up, typeset or anything. I was just bored this morning and I'm waiting to go to Comiket.

I actually don't really know how to batch upload images either.

Mediafire link will come at the end because I think that's what people do with these sort of things, I can't remember.

If anyone read and enjoyed, I'd be happy to do another. I'll give up if there isn't enough attention or really, any demand at all.

Stealthy bump, but please let me know whether it's worth uploading to bato or whatever kids use these days too.

Yeah, put it up on batoto or anywhere, really, unless you want it to be lost for good.

Just did.

Does anyone have advice on how I'd go about finding someone to do the boring work of cleaning off Japanese text from the raws?

Either ask in the occasional scanlation threads we have on Sup Forums, or go ask already established groups that you know like to do stuff like Mizuki Shigeru works.

My option key is broken so I can't use a clone tool to get rid of that tiny hiragana in the corner.

>A whole character in BnHA is based off Kitarou

This is great, thanks for your work user

Thanks! I'm thankful for any replies, this is annoying work alone. One story's not enough but two is too long by myself.

Thank you.

How do people feel about not translating sound effects? I consider them a part of the art so I left them alone.

It's fine, no big deal

I like seeing them translated and/or transliterated, but it's not essential. And I agree, it's part of the art, so even if you do translate, don't remove the original.

Any form of ~ f a n c y ~ l e t t e r i n g ~ should stay visible to the reader, as the author intended.

There's hardly any in these older series, and I downloaded my first font this morning just for this.

I might and VFX notes to the version I put on bato.

Final page I'll do for today. I haven't eaten yet and this was a pain. I'll look into writing out translations and just offering them to some sub group if I continue to have free time.

Thanks for the translations! I love Gegege no Kitaro.

Thank you.

>Well, until next time.

Thank you.

It's late in America but it's afternoon here in Japan, so I'll post one more.

Six minutes a page is killing me.

...

I will continue later, I know that's shit of me.

The pages left from the paperback are here:

If someone wants to clean the pages for me, I can typeset. I already translated the chapters, it's just getting rid of the Japanese that's annoying.

This looks bad

The typesetting or the translation or the work itself?

It's a bit dated but I've compared translations that are out to my own interpretation and the quality isn't so different as far as that's concerned.

>Rat Boy

That's a terrible translation and the proper nouns should be preserved. It'd be stupid to translate everything literally for retards, since the people interested in Kitarou are usually pretty knowledgeable and not new to manga.

I don't think I've seen anybody translate it ever.

I've seen a few blogs mention it, but they're probably only going off those early 00s translations.

I wish I could get my hands on the English versions put out in the last year, but they're more like a Greatest Hits, and look like they're aimed at children.

That finishes the second chapter (posted third).

I'll do one more but more than likely, I'll just save it until I have a few chapters saved up.

It's hard to upload/name it as a volume 8 since Hokuto no Ken/Happy Scans made up their own volume numbering while ignoring the 17-volume series.
