It probably has something to do with cultural inflection. With the American English pronunciation of Lance it comes out Lan-se and sounds more weak and feminine compared to the British English pronunciation of Lance that comes out more like Lon-se which sounds more strong and masculine.
There is a lot to a name, lads. Do not take it lightly.
