Why are there so few other anime of this style and quality level? Like, slice of life but with actual episode-long sitcom plots and not scared to drift into slightly more deranged and surreal territory at times.

Seems like almost every anime comedy is either: full-on LOLRANDOM stuff (which isn't necessarily bad, but wears thin ultra quickly), terrible harem shows consisting entirely of staggeringly unfunny sex jokes, or really boring SoL stuff that seem to forget to include the comedy element at all. There's only like five shows max I can think of that strike the balance in the way Yuru Yuri does.
