Thinking of starting ergo proxy is it as good as it seems

thinking of starting ergo proxy is it as good as it seems

Kinda, it's rather pretentious and gets its head too deep up its own ass sometimes, but it's a pretty solid show nonetheless

im half expecting that.. i'm mainly wondering how the actions scenes are and how badass vincent law is on screen.. his whole ergo proxy form thing is delicious

It seems good?

ya

Everything up until Vincent falls out of the hatch is amazing.

There are good points after that, but it was better as dark future-noir in my opinion.

No doubt worth a watch, though.

Just skip the game show episode. I did.

Its all worth it to get to the gameshow episode

Don't go in there with expectations of well executed psychological/sci-fi shit. The aesthetics are misleading, and it's actually a little goofy with some SoL bits, believe it or not. I was able to enjoy it, might even rewatch it again someday, if I'm in the mood.

It's fine as an adventure with a sort of dark ambience. Post-apocalypse and all.

The DEEP talk is pretentious, but it doesn't matter much.

Y'all are sending some mixed signals

Don't listen to this assclown

I remember being bored by the library/tea episode. Episode 11.

I'm going to re-rewatch it now.
I remember not liking it that much the first time I watched it because there were some boring 'filler' episodes and then later on there was a fucking info dump episode (the games how one), that's just poor direction.
But anyway, at the time I watched I was in a really bad mood, I will be more patient this time.

Game show ep is key to understanding the show, is trying to ruse you

Ergo Proxy is the only show I've ever fell asleep to watching

At least the girl was cute

Gameshowfags get ouuuuuttt

3 seconds apart.

Anyway, the most important part of the show is Pino. She'll quickly steal your heart and never give it back. Worth it just for her.

sequel when

It's a weird show, but good if that's your sorta thing. Like said, it often strays toward the comical, the absurd, and the comically absurd. A good pick if you liked Last Exile or Utena, but Texhnolyze it ain't.

I remember marathoning Ergo Proxy after I've already been watching anime for the past ~32 hours. Sometimes I fell asleep for a few seconds.
My diet for the past week back then consisted of only peanuts and other leftover snacks I could find arround the house since I was too lazy to go grocery shopping, so maybe that also affected how I perceived Ergo Proxy.
Anyway, I thought it's pretentious shit. Or at least that's what I think I thought after I watched it.

This show actually has one of my favourite episodes of anything (the one when they're stranded without wind).

Nice bait

Fuck you.

It was a pretty good example of good characterization with minimal dialog

Mine too. The show's strongest feature was its willingness to experiment like that.

...

It has a few good episodes. Overall it's pretty bad.
Whenever Manglobe decides to be a company again.

It's one of the first shows to come to mind when you hear "2deep4u" and few of the episodes are really connected to each other. If you watch shows for the plot, drop that shit

Ergo Proxy is pretentious and slow. If you really love sci-fi anime and are desperate for something post-apocalyptic to watch, or if you're a student of philosophy and classic art, and you enjoy hunting for obscure references, then go ahead and watch it. But if you are looking for an action anime, like you seem to be implying in , you're likely to find it a slog to get through. The art is occasionally good, but very inconsistent. However, a lot of people really seem to like it, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

Ergo Proxy in a nutshell.

>great designs
>great soundtrack
>great ambience
>interesting story
>symbology
>who are you meme arrowing?

>whom
ftfy

Ergo Proxy episode 16 is hands down the most realistic portrayal of human beings I have ever seen in an anime.

Ergo Proxy leaves you with various questions, such as how the hell did they get a Radiohead song licensed for the ED?

>busy doing nothing

was a fucking great episode. in fact, i think everything AFTER the point where vincent falls out of the hatch made ergo proxy so great and set it apart. just the overall loneliness of the wasteland coupled with the coziness of the boat was amazing.

In what other anime can you get compelling scifi, arguments about toilet seats, a Disneyland homage, Gnostic mysticism, enjoyable slice of life, and a decent dub to boot?

@151742849
>and a decent dub to boot
I ain't giving a (You) for that shitty bait. Try harder next time.

If you compare it to the Japanese, it's actually quite well done in terms of delivery, translation, choice of actors, etc. Given the decidedly non-Japanese setting, the heavy influence of western philosophies and culture, and the regular and perfectly fluent use of English as the written text in-show, I think it makes a lot of sense to watch Ergo Proxy in English.

yeah its boring as cat videos

if you don't love busy doing nothing you're objectively wrong.
ergo proxy is top10 for me.

The OST was sublime as well. Industrial beats mixed with gregorian chants was dope as fuck.

Are you serious? The dub was fantastic.

I tried watching it like three times, because the art is good, and it's from the creators of Samurai Champloo. But I can't get past the 2nd episode. I keep dropping it.

Sup Forums is an 18+ site, bud

I'm 20
Why are you assuming that I'm a minor?

Ergo Proxy is not pretentious. Their world is actually possible in real life if the richest and most powerful elites completed their desire a new world order.

Most people call it pretentious because of all the philosopher namedrops in order to make it look more 2deep than it really is

the dub is actually great as its all real-ass voice actors, not your usual cut-rate anime VAs
