What's with Japan and not rewarding heroes?
Simon freed the universe and he became a hobo.

A hero is ultimately a volunteer.
That's what makes him different from a mercenary.

Paying a hero for heroics is like paying your waifu for sex.
Don't do that.

Could be worse.

Heroes not getting rewarded is pretty common also in the West, not sure why you think this is noteworthy at all.

Simon himself chose to walk away from recognition and live a humble life traveling around. I never got the feeling he ever craved to be hailed as a hero during the series, and in the end he's able to see the results of the peace he brought everywhere he goes, I don't think it was a bad ending for him.

Also what the other anons said, it's not exclusive to Japan. Heck, there are versions of the Odyssey where Odysseus ultimately decides to start traveling again after getting back to his homeland and liberating it.

Japan focuses more on the group than the individual

Even if Simon's actions were heroic and indeed saved the universe, the story likes to focus on the results of his efforts and how life will continue to prosper rather than how the west would interpret the same scene.

The west: celebrates the individual for their actions or at least focuses on the rewards the hero gained through their hard efforts.
Japan: shows the results of one's efforts rather than celebrating the effort itself.

Even if the hero doesn't commonly get "rewarded" for doing godly feats like saving the whole universe and such, it's much more common in the west to see a story focus more on the hero get some form of satisfaction or reward for doing the thing they did. It's kind of hard to explain, but if you want a good example just look at most of the marvel movies. In the Avengers, once they fend off all evil the narrative focuses more on how the avengers saved the day yet again and how they're totally awesome rather than shifting the narrative to how their action of saving Earth has affected the people they had saved.

In Gurren Lagann, the narrative of the story takes a couple minutes just to show how the world is continuing to prosper and thrive due to Simon's heroic actions. If TTGL was a movie made from the west it would actually more focus on Simon being a hobo and how he's gained the gift of a peace of mind or some shit.

Pretty much this. It's what Simon wanted to do, OP's acting like he was cast out by society or something. It's not that deep, don't worry about it.

Not to mention that he actually was the retired hero with full honors in the middle of the show, and that didn't go well. OP is literally too stupid to understand the extremely subtle and complex cartoon Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann.

because he understood that the recklessness of his actions are the very things the anti-spirals said would lead to the destruction of the universe.

He left everything up to Rossiu because Rossiu finally understood the balance between authority and risk. Rossiu is like the shadow of the priest from Adai who only limited his village to a population of 50 and Simon is like Kamina's shadow who embraced recklessness and doing shit over and over until it worked out.

Kamina's reckless behavior is the exact shit that the Anti-spirals said would lead to the destruction of all life, and the village of Adai was like a miniature representation of how Lordgenome and by extension the Anti-spirals did things. If the authority of life was lead by Simon then the spiral nemesis would come in the blink of an eye so Simon did the responsible thing and keep his fucking word to the Anti-spirals by stepping down and letting Rossiu take the wheel. This is also why Simon refused to bring back Nia, because if he had done so then he'd be abusing spiral power and would not be keeping his promise to prevent the spiral nemesis.

This.

>Tenga Toppa

Can't top tenga

Thats because simon was no hero he was a villain

I'd rather like to know how Viral and the grand fleet of the united spiral universe are trying to fight a causal eventuallity.

>implying the spiral nemesis wasn'T a load of horseshit to justify a race being complete intergalactic assholes.

>not buying your waifu presents and trying to make her happy in any way possible (and giving her some cash so she isn't dependant on you anymore.
You don't belong here.

>OOGA BOOGA WE BE GODZ AND SHIEET
t. Spiral asshole

You need to come down user. None of that was implied.

Why should they?

You can always tell when some newfriend has finished a series when there are suddenly 5 threads relating to a show that Sup Forums has talked about to death.

Just joking, but what I meant is that while he ain't a wageslave and it's impossible to put a price on the whole universe, some show of thankfulness might be in order.
