So, guys. I just finished Mawaru Penguindrum. Late, I know.
Am I correct in assuming it was actually a happy ending because it's implied Ringo and Shouma are going to meet again, and Ringo is going to become a cradle robber.

But Penguindrum isn't a 1 to 1 retelling of Night on the Galactic Railroad.
How was it not implied? Shouma walks past the house Ringo is in when her and Himawari are about to leave for school. They are more than likely going to cross paths.
Believe that if you want but the scene was just a call back to the scene that happened in the first epsiode, and those boys never showed up again. It wasn't meant to imply that they would meet at all.
>and those boys never showed up again
Because they weren't main characters. Pretty different in context.
They're both dead and gone Night on the Galactic Railroad style.
>it was actually a happy ending because it's implied Ringo and Shouma are going to meet again
You'd like that, wouldn't you?
Yes, very much so.
Too bad, destiny is a bitch and they'll never meet again.
I'm sorry, user. But as much as I respect your opinion. I'm going to have to humbly disagree.
In the last scene of the series Ringo and shouta Shouma are like 20 yards away from each other.
That has to mean something.
If they showed up and ran into any character during the series then it would give precedence to the idea that the same thing would happen with the Shouma and Kanba reincarnations.
But that didn't happen, there's nothing to suggest that they would ever meet again, Shouma and Kanba don't even have the same memories. And the only person to be shown to slightly remember them was Himari
God the evidence is so high against it. I don't want to go on
Sometimes I regret it, but linux aftertaste is too strong.
Who do you mean by "they"? Younger Shouma and Kanba? How could they have run into anyone when the series ended directly after that scene.
If you mean the boys from episode one, they are not main characters, and they are not reincarnations. So they'd be no real reason for them to show again. Not everything needs precedence.
Also, Himari and Ringo both have ties to their previous lives/memories. Himari has her scare and Ringo has her burn. And they show that burn seconds before younger Shouma shows up.
>dropping the AOTD
This is not fabulous max
Reminder that Penguindrum isn't an allegory, it's Theatre of the Absurd.
I guess it's interpretable, but I'm pretty sure that Kanba and Shouma were just images of them going to the afterlife.
Then why were they little and not just normal size?
>but linux aftertaste is too strong
What did he mean by this?
Episode 9 of Penguindrum might be the best single episode of anime that I've seen.
Am I the only one who found Ringo & Shouma's romance to be completely unconvincing? They never really bonded on a human level, they just spent a lot of time together for plot reasons, much of which time was spent helping Ringo stalk her not-crush.
The foundation of the romance mostly came from Shouma making Ringo realize her own self worth by acknowledging her as nobody but herself, not Momoka. After he saves her life for seemingly no reason but his kindness, Ringo falls for him. Shouma has always been attracted to her, but for the sake of his duty to his family, he pushed her away.
Can't say I wasn't confused the first time through. For a second I thought for sure we were getting a time loop.
