As it turns out, comedy is held to a different set of standards. If a comedy makes you laugh, then it's successful. It doesn't need to have super strong characterization or a moving plot. It just needs to make you laugh. If it doesn't make you laugh, then fine, you can say it's a shitty comedy. But treating it like any other story is fucking retarded.

Comedy is fine but countless people have and will defend it as the pinnacle of anime. This mainly stems from people using the "It's a parody" or like you said, 'it's a comedy and comedy is held to different standards' excuse.
