Earlier this month, the Pentagon offered scant details to a group of concerned lawmakers regarding its assessment of casualties that could result from a military conflict with North Korea. However, last week, the Pentagon’s assessment was repudiated by one of its own, when retired Lt. General Jan-Marc Jouas penned a letter with a different take to the same group of lawmakers.
In detailing his views on the potential outcomes of a conflict on the Korean peninsula, Jouas – the former deputy commander of U.S. Forces Korea — painted a decidedly troubling picture for Representatives Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ), and Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL). While some government officials had previously warned that the death toll in South Korea’s capital, Seoul, could reach the tens of thousands within minutes, Jouas – in addition to noting this near-certitude – also stated that the U.S. military would be woefully unprepared to take on North Korean forces within their own territory in spite of the U.S.’ “technological advantage.”
The retired general asserted that U.S. forces stationed in South Korea, totaling around 30,000, would struggle to effectively attack the North Korean army, due to a stark disadvantage in numbers. Jouas writes that “the 28,500 U.S. Armed Forces personnel in South Korea are vastly outnumbered by North Korean forces, as well as ROK [South Korean] forces that will conduct the overwhelming majority of the fighting.”

Uhhh, no shit? This is in the case of just the US going to war with just NK, but that's not gonna happen. US can't preemptively strike because China will never yield military support for NK (because it's in China's interest to keep NK to it's border rather than SK) and Kim ain't stupid enough to attack anyone first (because as much as redditors would like the believe, he isn't a 'crazy rocket man').
Also this is primarily why SK dones't want a war - it's them that'll suffer the most. Of course the US doesn't care either way about gooks so long as they get their war, but that's a major reason for the South Korean's, who had to swallow North Korea's bombing of South Koreans and move on.

Here's how Korea War 2 goes:
Day 1: Norks flatten Seoul with the 10k plus arty tubes along the DMZ, Nork armor makes it a few kilometers inside the DMZ, halted in most spots by superior SK firepower.
Day 2: USAF and USN planes from Japan fly in. Free fire zone over the dmz declared. Most Nork forward armor and infantry forces flattened in a few hours. Line driven back across to Nork Border.
Day 3: General counter attack by SK/US infantry and armor across the dmz, any remaining Norks at the border pushed back to Peyonyang.
Day 4: SK/US task force reaches Peyongyang. Pounds the fuck out of the city with drones, planes, arty, missles, bullets etc etc. Think Grozny 98 x10000
Day 5: NK surrenders, government disolved, commies arrested and tried, mass celebrations and food handouts.
The only possible way this scenario doesnt happen is if China steps in, which they wont. Is the nork really worth starting WW3 over?
