Try skimming some of the finalist entries of one of the bigger Anime convention's AMV Contests. If you go the casual route and do a google or youtube search then of course you're going to be flooded with shit. That's not to say you won't find the same at these Cons, but at least you'll have a better shit-to-bearable ratio.

There are quite a few decent to good ones, but they are usually ones submitted to con competitions and rarely seen afterwards. The only real problem is even the decent to good ones fall mainly in two categories, either they are just scenery porn from a bunch of anime set to music, or they are supposed to be humorous (e.g. AMV hell)
