This isn't the 10x10 thread

it's 9 in total just like everyone else Chocona is just filler

3/8. Maybe I should watch Ichigo Mashimaro.

OP here, it is definitely one of the best CGDCT shows.

It's hard for me to get into it because the character designs throw me off.

They're not even alike.

fucking trash thread full of faggots

Anthology about a taciturn gunslinger and her chatty inanimate object observing various, largely depressing situations. The series eventually delves into her tragic backstory.

Well I guess it's that time of day again.
Haha WOW
Ugh why is Mononoke Hime even on here

No

Wrong. Fumika isn't really an expert in wielding guns. She took it from her "father" and has never actually gotten to use it as her weapon. I also found some countries in which Kino went to were exaggerated and edgy to the core, while Shigofumi has sense of realism to it and all pertains to the cancer in the society. Also Fumika's backstory was related to the main plot, while Kino's backstory was shown in the middle of the show.

I'm not defending Kino as a whole; a couple episodes were really almost perfect, and a bunch more were terribly mediocre. However, I think calling Shigofumi "realistic" is a bit of a stretch, given the almost comically absurd Kirameki arc. The exaggeration worked better in Kino, I think, because it was meant as allegory rather than actual realism. I seem to recall a non-insignificant amount of pandering to waifuism too in Shigofumi, which meshed poorly with the show's more literary aspirations.

That said, it's still better than most shows and I've got a copy of it on my shelf. The first two episodes in particular were praiseworthy.

That's true, and I think it was frowned by most of the Sup Forumsnons here back when it was still airing. Personally the arc sparked a controversial intrigue and was significant to learn more about Fumika and her tragic past. Outside of the main story, its realism still remains because no other anime has tackled dark themes such as school bullying, domestic abuse, suicide, prostitution, and so on whilst finding a shade of light which can be seen and felt. Also if I recall correctly, there wasn't any waifuism in the show as it didn't have time to focus on fanservice. The only moe elements I think of were Fumika being repulsive with cats, and Chiaki was almost well-liked because of her romance with her driver.

Bullying and GameDev episode were my favorites.

I did enjoy the chance to learn about Fumika, but I thought what we did learn was nonsensical at best, particularly the split personality business.

I agree about Shigofumi tackling dark themes, though, and appreciated it. Like I said, I thought the first two episodes were spectacular for that reason. I will add however that Boogiepop Phantom covered those topic as well (and is probably a better parallel to Shigofumi than Kino is, to be honest).

I could have sworn one of the later episodes had some frivolous CGDCT and fanservice with Fumika and Chiaki, but I may be mistaken.

Sorry for starting the conversation on such an inflammatory note.
