Unironically thinking L was smarter than Light

>unironically thinking L was smarter than Light

>unironically considering anyone in Death Note smart
Asspulls and plot twists the manga.

>Asspulls

Name FIVE (5)

wew lad

>unironically thinking Light did anything wrong

Light asspulled and bruteforced his victory though.
>well I have this death god who likes Misa
>I'll make him kill L by taking Misa hostage

WOOOOOOW

IF L WAS SO MUCH SMARTER THAN LIGHT THEN WHY DID HE DIED?

3 vs 1
Also the police kept trying to guilt trip him all the time for doing the right stuff

>victory
???

I don't think L was smarter, I know. It was confirmed by the author. Now fuck off.

This

>That bullshit near pulled off.
S2 was a misteak.

Not worse than whatever Light did, really.

L didn't have a magic notebook that could kill people.

why did L wash Light's feet?

Bible reference about Jesus washing Judens feet or whatever his name is.

Season 2? What do you mean? The series ended after L died.

>tfw I really liked the second half of DN but everyone shits on me.

>>unironically considering ANYTHING in Death Note smart

Reminder that the series MC, supposedly a genius, is exposed to the fact that the supernatural is real, immortal souls are fact and there's a heaven and a hell that he'll not be able to go to just by using the death note. And yet he ignores this completely and asks no further questions about the deep secrets of life and reality that was revealed to him and goes into an autistic quest to kill random criminals for the rest of his life.

What killed this series to me is that Light's motivations didn't make sense and this is a gaping plothole. They should have just made it so his motivation was to fuck with investigators out of boredom and nihilistic pleasure, and grew to enjoy sparring with his archrival, like a Joker archetype.

>They should have just made it so his motivation was to fuck with investigators out of boredom and nihilistic pleasure, and grew to enjoy sparring with his archrival, like a Joker archetype.
That's literally what he is if you think about it.

>there's a heaven and a hell that he'll not be able to go to just by using the death note.

way to out yourself as an animeshitter.

Well yeah no shit in the end L got one over based on a hunch but the real asspull will always be Near.

...

If I learned anything from Bakuman, it's that we should blame the editors for this.

He should've kept questionning that shit. Seriously, your roomy is literally from the other world and you just barely care about it?

They already know that and have already explained that most of their own actions in the making of the story were because it's what they wanted to have happen instead of thinking about what other people would want.

That's what he is in fact, but he's too pretentious about his motivation. He seems to want to make some sort of utopia on earth by ending criminality, which seems like a pointless ordeal given the information he has.

Yeah, I only watched the anime. This puts a bit more sense in Light's actions, but it's not enough. Honestly, anyone with the slight intellectual sensibility would have just kept asking questions about the supernatural and the afterlife. What's even the point of using the deathnote?

He most definitely was, Light just had an incredibly overpowered tool at his disposal and protagonist powers.

>Yeah, I only watched the anime
You should read the manga ending (right after Light gets found out). It fits Light's character much more.

Yagami lighto

Anime made Light's decision quite stupid. Manga Light realizes there is no afterlife at all. The point is a "why not?", since there are literally no penalties for using the Death Note.

I guess the conclusion was too amoral for anime viewers and they made it look like Light had to pay some kind of price for using it, whenever in the manga he only had to pay anything (his life) in case he loses.

but user.
he becomes a shinigami in the anime!

The only reason Light won was because L refused to believe shinigamis and Death Notes were anything but a smoke screen until he couldn't deny the evidence.

Which is like "congrats on using the prohibited book, now you are virtually immortal!".

>The point is a "why not?"
Because it's pointless? Even if he did realize there is no heaven or hell, the fact that he realises he does have an immortal soul and there is this whole other world of Gods who tend to human ortality should have sparked his curiosity much more than a book that ends people in this efemeral stage of his existence.

It would have made more sense if his motivation was to just fucking with humanity for fun from the get go, like a bored nihilistic psycho. Not the retarded, pseudo-moralist crap of killing criminals to make the world safer

This
Light fags are delusional

no he's fucking dead

Weren't there little character graphs with their stats like intelligence and what not

but he did make the world safer. he even got his own religion at the end.

read the fucking manga

>It would have made more sense if his motivation was to just fucking with humanity for fun from the get go, like a bored nihilistic psycho. Not the retarded, pseudo-moralist crap of killing criminals to make the world safer
Light is a textbook sociopath. It's just one of the arbitrary shit i'd expect one of them to do to drive their actions. Like a weird habit that kinda makes sense if you don't think it through you know?

>but he did make the world safer
Not really, the timeskip narration implies world went to shit even with the criminality decrease. People started being dumbfucks and having a Damocles sword above you all the time can't do much good to the mind. Remember that people started denouncing others on Internet, think Sup Forums except people trying to get others killed.

then who was mr skeltal?
yes. Light was smarter than L. but don't tell Sup Forums.

DAS RASIS

...

>just kept asking questions about the supernatural and the afterlife

But light doesn't care and doesn't believe in afterlife and the very being confirms it to him.

Don't even know how you're questioning lights motivation when he was pondering over it before he saw a death note

The mangaka literally says L was smarter because the plot required it.

>then who was mr skeltal?
Who?

>yes. Light was smarter than L. but don't tell Sup Forums.
If those are canon, yes. But something being canon doesn't mean it makes sense. Light did tons of dumb shit which worked because of the plot. Reminder that he managed to get the list of suspects to go from 7 billions to like 10 millions in 2 minutes, and then from 10 millions to 10 in a week by doing his stupid ass plans and going HAHA KEIKAKU DOORI good job fucktard now pray for the Naomi Deus Ex Machina to save your ass (twice)

Light is a fucktard

>read the fucking manga
Even in the anime it says he did, as criminality went down and he had sympathizers. My point is, an actual intelligent person would have focused much more on understanding the supernatural laws that governed existence.

>Light is a textbook sociopath.
>But light doesn't care and doesn't believe in afterlife
That is exactly why. A high IQ sociopath who has no empathy for humanity should have been more preocupied with his own mortality and the information he could get from the supernatural being in front of him. Why start doing shit if you don't fully understand the supernatural laws that clearly exist? He didn't even attempt to understand them

L and peers considered Light his successor

He never does it for the justice. He discovers it does not matter whatever you do you'll end the same shitty afterworld. Also, he gets a book which after experimentation shows that its only capacity is killing people whose name he knows and make them do some trivial tasks before dying.

So, now you can try to use the Death Note on its limited capacity to do some indiscriminate killing until you are caught, which is retarded. Or you can put an act and use that power to kill people universally hated, gaining the respect of most people and guaranteeing yourself a position of power so you can enjoy your limited life to the fullest. Because honestly, leaving going on a silly rampage aside, there is another good use for the Death Note that lets you win power without ending with everybody going against you?

>He didn't even attempt to understand them
This absolutely doesn't make sense, yes.
What I'm saying is that his "purge criminals" motive makes sense from his standpoint.

...

>Who?

See A smart, cold hearted man would have had the insight to take the lawyer approach and attempted to milk from the Shinigami everything he could about the laws of the universe before getting involved with the supernatural. Why rist his immortal soul? It makes no sense unless he's actually an idiot

>What I'm saying is that his "purge criminals" motive makes sense from his standpoint.
fair enough

>Reminder that he managed to get the list of suspects to go from 7 billions to like 10 millions in 2 minutes, and then from 10 millions to 10 in a week by doing his stupid ass plans and going HAHA KEIKAKU DOORI

This only proves how capable and intelligent ligth was by being able to still outwit L in this situation, he was trying to get closer to him after the first fuck up.

>pray for the Naomi Deus Ex Machina

Kek 2017 and people still think her telling her real name doesn't make sense even when the agents back at the force confirmed that light helped them out a lot and is son of thr chief and then brings up L who only a few know.

FUCKING DELETE THIS

This is a .jpg not a .gif you goddamn savage.

Light is smart but he was still a teenager going through a "emo" phase thinking the world is shitty. What do you expect from someone like that who gets a all powerful god tool suddenly? He literally got hyped as fuck once he used it

If L had the Death note, he wouldn't have gotten caught or even used it because he was smart enough not to.

L is genuinely stupid

He was so fascinated by the shinigami and the death note he forgot he had actual proof Misa was involved with a death note with the tapes and let her go

He's dumb as fuck

I don't buy this. The series portrayed him as being a mature supergenius, and he used the deathnote for YEARS. How long until you start wondering about consequences of using divine magic and not even attempting to understand how it works or what laws govern the supernatural phenomena you're witnessing? He was aware of having an immortal soul and that Gods existed and meddled with human mortality, yet he asked no further questions. Light is retarded, or, better yet, poorly written

>This only proves how capable and intelligent ligth was by being able to still outwit L in this situation, he was trying to get closer to him after the first fuck up.
And other people got to know he was the N°1 suspect and fucked him over in the end. Good job.

>Kek 2017 and people still think her telling her real name doesn't make sense even when the agents back at the force confirmed that light helped them out a lot and is son of thr chief and then brings up L who only a few know.
I'm thinking about the fact Light found her randomly, and wasn't spotted by that police guy because it started snowing just at the right moment.
There are other plot shields though.

>He was so fascinated by the shinigami and the death note he forgot he had actual proof Misa was involved with a death note with the tapes and let her go
This. He didn't even send anyone to follow her or put any camera in her room just in case. Or even kept her in the appartments they had just like they've been doing for weeks.
EVEN THOUGH KIRA CONFIRMED HE WAS STILL AROUND.

I can't stress that enough.

Who /Platinum End/ here?

>mature

>gets immediately triggered when challenged on TV and offs a wrong guy

No.

They potray him as smart guy with a ego who still makes childish mistakes.

Don't know why you're acting like he never questions shit about the death note and shinigamis all the time wondering the risks and uses and how they operate, it's how he was able to do the memory loss plan and know what will happen to misa's shinigami if she killed L. You're thinking way in to deep to this when Light was just power hungry and became more warped using the D/N

>motivation and willingness to act are two separate items
The fuck?

A truly powerful scene

I skimmed through a bit of the beginning and it caught my interest. Now I just have to take the time to actually read it.

>You should read the manga ending (right after Light gets found out). It fits Light's character much more.

What's different?

There is no way anyone could possibly get caught using a Death Note. Light's a fucking idiot.

Same as before, Light tries to kill Near because he's just that mad and Matsuda shoots him. Except Mikami doesn't kill himself. Light is on the ground bleeding, asks Mikami to help him, to which Mikami responds he's handcuffed and can't do anything, before screaming at Light that he's not God and he put him into this miserable situation. Light keeps crawling on the ground, asking Misa and Takada to kill everyone to which Near answers Misa is in captivity and Takada is dead (by Kira's hand, obviously). Everyone sees how pathetic Light is until he sees Ryuk in the corner of the room and asks him to kill everyone. Ryuk goes "okay, I'll write" and everyone try to shoot him to not avail. Ryuk writes Light's name just like in the anime, Light begs him like a mad man to save him. Light has the flashback where he finds out there's no heaven/hell and goes "I don't wanna die" like a little bitch for the 40s of his life before dying. His last word "shit".

Then there's an epilogue that tells you the world is like before and puts some stuff into perspective.

Well yeah, he didn't have a magic book and a god at his back

He made some early mistakes because he misjudged how smart L was. He had the same line of thinking as you, that it was impossible to be caught.

Accessing the police files was very stupid, because it narrows down the search to a few families. Then going on to kill the FBI agent following him was reckless.

Oh well. He wanted to kill L, and letting himself fall under suspicious was the only way to do that.

>And other people got to know he was the N°1 suspect and fucked him over in the end.

Plain bad writing as Light is known to never put blind faith in to someone doing his job for him, especially when Misa forgot L's name it didn't even matter.

>I'm thinking about the fact Light found her randomly

They both had reasons to go to the police station though.

It wouldn't have mattered if they saw him, light could have claimed she was asking to contact her if he meets with the chief later or something , they wouldn't be able to lock him up over that just because he was the last person to see her and no body found or nothing to prove her status.

>They potray him as smart guy with a ego who still makes childish mistakes.
That's the thing. If they portray him as a smart guy who is 50 steps ahead of a normal person, wouldn't he have the insight to at least EVENTUALLY start wondering about the magical/divine phenomena he is being subjected to?

It would have made more sense if he never interacted with the Shinigami, so I would buy that, even being a supposed genius on sever aspects of life, he was also young and an insensitive, low self-awareness psycho, so arrogant and childish that he didn't bother to ponder about the consequences of his actions or to really question why the magic book was given to him and just kept using it like a cunt. But because he did interact with a supernatural being that dumped a lot of extraordinary exposition on him about how the universe actually work, so I just can't believe he would still act the way he did. It's just a major logical inconsistency that always irks me about this series

The life action version was better

L wins though he ends his life to do so, just later than when Light wanted it to.

Truly the downfall of his death, he was too invested in Kira and his magical shit he was forgetting the facts

I still think Light could have won in that situation.

>subtly walk closer to Mikami
>accuse Near of setting him up, accuse Mikami of being an actor hired by Near to frame Light, etc
>whisper to Mikami to block them
>run out the door
>run to a safe place
>use the watch note to kill everyone

Bam, I'm smarter than Light.

>Plain bad writing as Light is known to never put blind faith in to someone doing his job for him, especially when Misa forgot L's name it didn't even matter.
Light's master plan in part 1 was to ask people to kill people for him. Misa and Rem, especially. So no.
And it doesn't even matter. The thing is that Light managed to make his anonymity go from 7 billions to 1 (ONE). That was a terrible move no matter how you look at it.

>They both had reasons to go to the police station though.
At exactly the same time when everyone is busy? So Light could overhear a conversation just at the right moment?

Relying on that kind of coincidences means your plan is shit.

More like plot needed him to do that.

They had guns and were like 10. Mikami can't hold them all and if Light stopped to write a name he'd get caught by his pursuers, if he didn't get shot before. Remember that they were so on edge that Matsuda shot him before he could write 10 characters.

the end was shit
it was extremely out of character for light to not only put his trust in a stranger, but to not have a backup plan and act like an idiot at the last second

>he was still a teenager going through a "emo" phase thinking the world is shitty
The world is shitty. That's why a lot of people were happy about Kira.

>Light
>smart
If he didn't challenge the police at all there was zero way for him to be caught. He's an absolute idiot.

That's literally what he did in the end of part 1 though.
Rem could've easily sold him out to L in exchange for Misa. And Light's plan relied on L letting them go without surveillance. Proven culprits.

>both Light and L are about 180 and weight 50 something kg
>I'm around 175 and weight around 70kg, people consider me to be skinny

Someone explain this to me. I've seen this before in other series, too. Do nips have lighter bones?

Sure, but he was able to walk to the back of the warehouse and everyone was just listening to him talk. Do the same thing but in the direction of the door. Use Mikami as a shield, if he needs to.

Mikami only needs to hold them off for like 5 seconds so Light can find a hiding place.

Light is more intelligent but L is more autistic and better applies his intelligence. He's the smartest character.

>why the magic book was given to him

This was thoroughly explained he wasn't chosen for that specific death note when he actually fucking asked this in the very first episode/chapter

You seriously haven't seen or read the series in years because he actually questioned ryuk constantly the risks and uses of the death note and if there are others like ryuk and how to deal with them. Even when he found out about the eyes and asked what the consequences were he didn't take it knowing it wasn't worth it.

>Rem talks 1 to 1 with L
>tell him Misa is manipulated by Light to kill people for him and that she's willing to help catch Light and free Misa
>L agrees, saying he wont harm Misa
>Rem manipulates Light with her Death Note to tell Misa to give up her notebook for him pretexting it's "the plan" and die in an accident, doesn't have to sacrifice herself for that
>Light is dead in an accident
>Misa doesn't remember Death Note shit
>Problem solved

Actually, wait, Rem doesn't even need to talk to L. Just manipulate Light to tell Misa to stop. Kill Light. Problem solved.

I think since his intention is to save Misa, he will die regardless.

>Do the same thing but in the direction of the door
Highly suspicious.
Light could probably have pulled off Near's murder, but after that he'd have been caught.

>his
>he

>he had actual proof Misa was involved with a death note with the tapes and let her go

So what? She's a useless puppet and wasting time with her when you could be be dealing with the shit Kira actually used to kill people is not a waste of time. He kept misa on watch with that guy on the force for a while with nothing hinting shit and evem whem she was "free" she kept coming back in anyways. He just got a damn death note and a real shinigami at the base so it would be stupid for him to waste time on misa

Technically if L agrees to have Misa free of charges she wouldn't "save" her but she'd still kill for her happiness. She could do that before L caught her, as she said she'd kill L because it'd make Misa happy.

He kept Misa under observation before and he wasn't sure she was relevant. Now that she was proven to be a culprit ...
ESPECIALLY since she had the eyes and saw his face. You'd have to be really dumb to forget about that.

It's been awhile since I've watched this series, so I'm not sure if any rules contradict this -- but how crazy can you manipulate peoples actions with the Death Note? Couldn't you write him off to achieve some crazy shit for your plan like becoming the president and then set his time to die at relatively normal age of 80?

>That's literally what he did in the end of part 1 though.

No

He forced Misa to kill L

That's different than waiting on a guy to do something for you.

That's not how it works

Light is the only one who can guarantee Misa's safety by keeping her shit as a secret as it benefits him

Killing light would be retarded.

Also Misa has factually killed people on her own free will and even his own fucking men when trying to find Light. L would not approve of her being let go, that's not how he works.

>actually smarter than everybody in anime and manga
>can no longer enjoy any of them

>He kept Misa under observation before and he wasn't sure she was relevant

No he kept her underwatch as soon as there was evidence piled on her being involved for weeks and stuck matsuda on her for weeks as ger agent and nothing.... while L actually has a death note and shinigami with him to investigate.

There is nothing proving she was factually kira and merely possibly a pawn

Pretty sure you can't make them do things that are impossible for them to do.
