In Germany we have what we call "Girls day", which is a day where girls get a day off from school so they can visit companies / trades that operate in male dominated fields / industries. Employees show them around, explain what they do and try to get the girls interested in their work. Problem is most girls either don't visit any companies and just stay at home or decide to go to school instead.

I study CS, most of the women here don't even like it, they just chose it because they did well in school and didn't know what to do so they study something that pays well. Most of them barely tolerate it, those that hated it already dropped out. Only one or two is actually good.

Physics PhD student here - bottom line is that men just tend to have a better aptitude for the sciences. There are a handful of women who are wired for science and engineering, and I've known women who do perfectly fine in these kinds of programs, but they're the exception, not the rule.

IT here, most women end up working IT help desk or sales. Hours are usually more flexible and there's less late nights at remote sites. Atleast that's what I see now that I've moved on to more of a management role. There's still a lot of money in sales though.
