And Jesus was the son of God because he called the God father. Totally legit interpretation of what Jesus was. He was a fucking hippie, and I seriously doubt that when he was interested in converting anyone. He was what protestants are to catholics with regard to the judaism. He was just a hippie reformer. The evidence for the New Testament being a continuation of greco-ascetic schools of thought is overwhelming. The "evidence" that it is an extension of a Jewish tradition is laughable.

Several examples:
There is no concept of a "soul" in the old testament. This is a Greco-Roman idea spanning thought to be developed by Pythagoras. Notions like purity and asceticism are absent from old testament. Neopythagoreans were obsessed over parthenogenesis. The Jews couldn't even reconcile such an idea!
The family history and birth in Bethlehem are thought to be added after the fact simply so that it conforms to the old testament.

What I said isn't a matter of appropriation. No. Anyone who has studied Greek philosophy in depth will realize the resounding similarity between recurring thoughts and ideas in the longstanding tradition stemming back to 500 BC with those found in the New Testament. It's obvious that these ideas are unique developments alien entirely from the the Old Testament.

The earliest known records of the New Testament are in Greek, not Hebrew or Aramaic.
Moreover, the geographical spread of it shows that the first Christians were mostly NOT Jewish. It also would explain why Jews were vehemently opposed to it, as it was some alien Greco doctrine being espoused that did not conform with their ideological/religious beliefs.
