Anyhow, this chapter somewhat explained why Shiraitodai's team was rather mediocre, as their structure doesn't aim to send the strongest players, but that team that works together the best.

They might have to be decent because Shiraitodai won in Teru's 1st year, but Teru lost to Kainou. Unknown whether this was in a team or individual match.

This page also mentions Fujishiro Nanami, who is the star player at Senriyama () and will be the final boss in Teru & Sumire's 1st year. Great plotline - unknown star (Teru) and envious reject (Sumire) destroy the #1 school to win Zenkoku as underdog.

It's very clever of Teru to ingratiate herself to the coach while Sumire is arguing with her about forming the teams. Now Teru gets to make the decisions while spoiled Miss Mahjong Scholarship gets told to STFU.
The whole scenario looks like an accident or a coincidence, but Teru was planning it all along.

I don't think so. Sumire was the one that started conversation both times, and Teru stopped playing mahjong at least in middle school, she doesn't have a motive.

It's a mystery why Teru and her mom moved to Tokyo if it wasn't for Teru to play mahjong in high school. Also, Ai was long retired as a pro by this point.
New mystery: Why Tokyo? Not a cheap place to live and not a good place to hide from bad guys. Are they moving from place to place like homeless people? This may explain why Teru is always hungry.
