Baki Dou 140 translation

fuck it let's just get this over with

there's some logic in the text of this chapter that doesn't make any sense; I'll point it out when we get there

blah blah blah, over 400 years have passed, sign of war, etc

>Let it come; a modern-day Sekigahara.

>Chapter 140: Country Cutter

>Editor: Standing against one another: the power of the state and the one peerless under heaven!

Only included that line because I remember it was used to a certain prevalence in Vagabond.

>Heebeejeebees: Alright.
>H: Take out his legs.
>H: Don't miss.
>H: Or he'll cut you down.

...

...

>H: Gh... Ngh...!

...

...

>H: It's smashed...

...

>H: Those six guys he dropped all said the same thing.
>Narrator: Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Criminal Investigation Bureau First Investigative Division Assistant Inspector, Ootsuka Heibee
>H: "My head flew off!"
>H: Hm?
>H: No, no, he didn't pull the sword out.
>H: That was a while later.

Not sure why we're reintroduced to Heebeejeebees here - it's literally the exact same text as the time we were introduced to him in 139. Itagaki's drunk, he needs to go to sleep.

>H: After?
>H: Some bullshit.
>H: We're the police, so we had to keep going in,
>H: No matter what.
>H: You know how that panned out.

>H: "These were big cops."
>H: "How did he take down the other 6 guys?"
>H: "Couldn't they have jumped on him...
>H: ...All at once?"
>H: Interesting thing is...
>H: [Only] 5 of the guys say the same thing.

This is where things get/got confusing for me. Heebeejeebees says that *5* of the 6 members say the same thing, but does not clarify what it is that they said.

>H: He's completely surrounded, without a doubt.
>H: Then...
>H: They try to grab him.

Starting either now or on page 022, we are seeing from the perspective of the sixth member, but it's being narrated by Heebeejeebees for whatever reason.

...

>H: His buddies were right in front of him.
>H: And then his allies...
>H: Were becoming obstacles.
>H: At last,
>H: When it's finally his turn...

>H: It's down to just the master swordsman, Musashi...
>H: And himself.

>H: Well. In modern terms,
>H: What we'd call footwork, I think? -
>H: Turns out to actually be...
>H: An "art of war" thing.
>H: He's the real deal.

>H: There's nobody at headquarters who doubts it anymore.

>H: He's being tailed now.

Whoops, haste.

>More Musashit
Tired of his ass. Can't we follow someone more interesting?

And now; the man, the myth, the legend that you've all been waiting for to be character of the week: Mahomed!!! Arai!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In remembrance of him, and because the fact that this chapter explicitly references boxing footwork, this week's poem is an excerpt of one *by* Muhammad Ali:

This is the legend of Cassius Clay,
The most beautiful fighter in the world today.
He talks a great deal, and brags indeed-y,
of a muscular punch that's incredibly speed-y.
The fistic world was dull and weary,
But with a champ like Liston, things had to be dreary.
Then someone with color and someone with dash,
Brought fight fans are runnin' with Cash.
This brash young boxer is something to see
And the heavyweight championship is his des-tin-y.
This kid fights great; he’s got speed and endurance,
But if you sign to fight him, increase your insurance.
This kid's got a left; this kid's got a right,
If he hit you once, you're asleep for the night.
And as you lie on the floor while the ref counts ten,
You’ll pray that you won’t have to fight me again.
For I am the man this poem’s about,
The next champ of the world, there isn’t a doubt.
This I predict and I know the score,
I’ll be champ of the world in ’64.

End chapter.

Thanks for the translation once again!

Kind of a boring chapter, but it was to be expected. What'll come next is bound to be more interesting - Musashi is gonna be followed now, he'll have to deal with helicopters and other motor vehicles as well as stuff like snipers, roadblocks, suppressive weaponry like tear gas and flashbangs... Yeah, I'm fairly excited for what's gonna happen next.

Who would you have us follow? I ask out of curiosity and out of potential usefulness. We're weighing how to prioritize the series - Scarface, Kenjin, Dou, Grappler, all that shit.

And you do understand that this is now an arc/mini-arc now, yes? The page in my OP essentially says:
>Come at him, Japan!

And the other color pages are equally provocative.

Thanks op, but really I don't enjoy reading this anymore.
I mean, what the actual fuck

Keep going man. I wana see clay.

I'm not enjoying this anymore either. I personally found this chapter to be unnecessary. I'm just killing time, trying to avoid having to work on Dou 114.

Only positive is this: since most of the Pickle stuff is scanlated, we might get Arstavial back sooner rather than later; once we've bridged the gaps in scanlation. He did say he'd be more amiable to helping again once the Pickle fight was over, if I recall right.

*Still* no news on WHEN the anime is going to start up, which is a very bad sign in my mind.

This is from the perspective of the '5 members'
Musashi's footwork made the police officers stand in a line
The sixth member is at the front so his colleagues didn't stand in front of him as obstacles

Oh! Fuck, I'm sorry. You're completely right. I was even thinking about that first-in-line one, too, I just didn't connect the dots. Thank you for the clarification, at any rate.

is that a young Yujiro on vol 15's cover, or just Baki?

Baki. Volume 15 is out and in the mega, if you want to have a look at it yourself.

So is there any complete arcs in Baki Dou yet or is it all still one?

If you consider Musashi as a character to be an arc, then there hasn't been a completed arc. If you consider Motobe's quest to be an arc, yes; and we're heading into the second.

i thought musashi was fine last year when i got all caught up to baki and everyone who was following the series for a while was just bitching and that musashi isn't different from anyone else

now
>it's a musashi

Since we're having this conversation in slow-form on DG, I figure we might as well get some quicker discussion on the topic in here. So:

Could high-powered snipers handle the current Baki fighters?

Gaia expressed shock when Musashi was able to catch a ballistic knife fired at him at roughly 40 MPH, so it stands to reason that he and the other fighters can't catch ordinary bullets, which move at like 700 MPH. That said, they can also dodge at ludicrously high speeds. But if they were not aware of the sniper prior to the shot being fired, would they be able to react in time to dodge? In the case that the answer is no: who among the fighters can tank high caliber rifle rounds, if anyone? Hanayama took a bullet to the head and survived with relatively insignificant damage in Scarface. Could someone like Pickle or Yuujiro simply tank rifle rounds? Would they half-dodge, half-tank the damage? Is it different in Musashi's case specifically? What do you all think?
