I think it is more of a self-fulfilling prophesy.
Jews, ethnically, are intelligent. Culturally, they value education and community. Historically they were persecuted for the death of christ, and lacking a homeland of their own were always foreigners in their host countries.
Because medieval concepts of "citizenship" were tied to fealty or loyalty to kin groups, Jews could never participate in their host cultures as full citizens. It also made them convenient scapegoats for anything that went wrong (like the plague, which they avoided by actually cleaning up their homes).
This history of persecution leads them to look after their own first. A Jew will always hire a Jew before a gentile, like a White is more likely to hire a White than a black (if left to his own devices). Jews are just more extreme in their selection.
I also suspect bar mitzvahs play an underrated role in the relative success of jews. We all know jews whp got 10,000, 20,000 dollars while in high school and internship opportunities from other Jews in the community. When has a white or Asian 13 year old gotten 20k and a job from the kindness of his community?
They also seek positions of influence to make themselves valuable to their host community as a survival mechanism. Doctors, lawyers etc. In that respect they are like Asians, where parents actively push children to climb economic and social ladders via education.
So you have an intelligent people who cultivate that intelligence, help each other financially and socially from a very young age, and practice extreme nepotism once they find themselves in positions of influence.
But to a lesser extent so do Asian immigrants. What separates the Jew and makes him the consistent target of ire throughout history is inability to assimilate. Jews are always Jews before they are anything else, and consequently will help Jews at the expense of Gentiles even in their host country.
