Yes and no. Because of his setting things are more forgivable. And chuuni is more childish. Like being a 13 year old who has just read some fantasy book and then spends a year studying wicca and black magic. Or becomes obsessed with steampunk and buys a load of rusty shit.
Going embarassingly overboard and trying to look cool is part of it but there's also the kind of obsession with certain aesthetics and taking it too far in trying to inject it into your life.
