That's the point. That's why her world is black and white. She doesn't see anything in herself. We even saw that happen in one of the extras. Her world was colorful, then she told her mom she could hear thoughts. After her mom's reaction, the color drained out of her world.

With it being intentional, it is likely one of the intended parts of the story is for her to regain the color in her life at some point.

Yeah, the author's use of color is not just to make things pretty or distinct, its very intentional and deliberate to convey ideas non-verbally.
