Any news of upcoming BD releases?

I'm watching Hokuto no Ken, it's interesting.

Cool finisher.

...

See

Slayers is 90s

I love Kotono Mitsuishi

Just watched the Fire Emblem OVAs and even though everyone hates it I thought it was pretty good.

They were pretty okay, it's just kind of short and doesn't really go anywhere.

I finally got around to watch sailor moon classic... Why did nobody tell me it would end on such a brilliant way. Like a lot of anime OP songs never really fit the story or they are too obvious, but sailor moons theme song literally ties the whole series up and I feel a genuine conclusion to it all... Truly a the miracle of Romance

Do the 4 other seasons live up to the standard or should I live it now?

I'm watching an obscure 80s mini mecha wrestling show called Plawres Sanshiro. Really enjoying it

I was thinking of getting into Getter Robo. Is it fine to read the manga and then watch Getter Robo: Armageddon? That OVA series looks interesting.

Will this never get a BD release? Wasn't it one of the most popular manga?

Was rewatching the old Berserk. I don't care what anbyone say I like it, even moreso than the manga.

No idea desu. I also watched the old Berserk anime recently and I liked it, I started the manga after though so I can't really tell which I prefer yet.

Yeah you should be fine with just the manga. And Armageddon is good. I'm personally not much of a Getter fan but Armageddon is really solid especially the first 3 episodes.

Actually watching Slayers for the first time right now. Im on episode 7 and its great. I heard it gets worse in the later seasons but im excited to have so many episodes left in the series. It was one of those things in my backlog ive put off forever so its nice to finally pop it open and enjoy.

I started watching furry Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock Hound). I am only two episodes in, but so far I like it.

Also, there is proper HD transfer on BDs for this.

Been going through all of the Gainax works I've yet to see recently, namely Honou no Tenkousei and Nadia. Is Gainax incapable of creating bad anime?

Watching Princess Nine, seen 21/26 episodes. It's great, and I love the artstyle

Who is a good group to go for with Slayers? I've been interested in it a lot.

Just finished rewatching some Legend of the Galactic Heroes episodes but I've started the original Dragonball not long ago. I somehow never saw this despite them airing Z and GT here in the UK.

The old Dragonball is really great, you've been missing out!

I like the emphasis on humour and adventure a lot. Especially how Goku is so out of touch with modern day living and regards all scientific things as black magic is very hilarious.

>Who is a good group to go for with Slayers?
Anime-Supreme should be best for the old TV series, even though their encode isn't particularly great. Avoid Takeo84 for them, he doesn't know how to handle DVD sources. (like many encoder newfags)

Everybody is waiting for BDs there.

For Revolution and Evolution-R, any BD encode should do.

Yeah, following that little forest monkey boy throughout all these episodes was a great ride.

Nice general you got here, is it too hard to make a thread for a show you want to discuss?

>It's not a tenchi/ranma circle jerk thread

this is a good start

Finished watching Nadia yesterday. Amazing series, if you don't watch that shitty filler.

I've seen plenty of Anno's works before but somehow I've never got round to watching either Nadia or Kare Kano, which would you advise I watch first?

The filler is fine, and it's referenced in the real parts too, you can't really skip it.
The island is good for the first few episodes, until you get a bit tired of it and it gets more and more stupid and unrealistic. The village episodes people say are the worst, and episode 34 is great in its own way, completely unique and brings a lot of fun.

I haven't watched Kare Kano yet. But after watching Nadia you notice a lot of stuff that Anno took and used in Evangelion. So if you're more of an Eva fan I'd say watch Nadia first.

Is there a good release for Yu Yu Hakusho?

I watch Evangelion around every New Year's or just after, in fact I've just finished my yearly watch not long ago so I'm going to look forward to it.

Finally gave a try to Ace o Nerae and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the movie, it's fucking great.
The pacing was a bit too fast, but I expected it since it's basically a recap.
Should I go back to the original 1973 series, watch Shin or just jump to the Ace o Nerae! 2 OVA?

I'll need to watch that sometime. Watching Green Gables now since I'm kinda on a Takahata binge. Might watch Lupin after or go back to finishing Ashita no Joe

I've only seen the 1973 TV series, and I really liked it. I agree that it was good.
Wasn't even that long ago I saw it.

I hope that with all this recent interest in Ace wo Nerae someone will sub the rest of the series

Did anyone else enjoy Video Girl Ai (the manga, not the anime)?

I'm not answering your question but taking this opportunity to say what I think about the anime.

Great romance in the middle, and I really enjoyed the insert songs. The first episode or two felt really generic, and the ending was super strange, one of the weirder endings I've seen.

A fun show from the 90's is Ping Pong Club which is pretty much Sup Forums the anime.

The anime is pretty poor, I've watched it. The manga on the other hand is much more interesting.

It's fun, the manga is much more open about sexual stuff than your run-of-the-mill modern harem romcom, and yet the latter feel a lot dirtier. I think the author wanted to give a realistic representation of love, which includes eroticism, while modern authors pander to purityfags all the while inserting fanservice left and right.

The two OVA were actually broadcasted in Italy, as such I'm a bit tempted to go with the dubbed version while waiting for a decent sub even though I'm usually completely against dubs.

I Just finished Gundam 0080 and Rurouni Kenshin Tsuioku Hen.
I thought 0080 wasn't as good as people make it out to be. Tsuioku Hen was great though.

Yeah, [Iznjie Biznjie]. Should be on Nyaa.

Just finish watching 'Gunsmith Cats' a great classic.

I enjoyed the visuals of Genocyber and The Guyver. What are some other body horror/sci fi anime like them?

Who MKR here?

I love how they censored the middle finger, but didn't censor the actual dicks.

I watched Infinite Ryvius. It has rather high rating everywhere but I can't understand why. I went in expecting some kind of space opera. It took me about 20 episodes to finally realize that space is only the general setting, no sci fi shit is gonna happen and the main point of the story is just exploration of various ways a society can be governed or some pretentious shit like that. Even on that point the show never did anything original or at least interesting, it only showed the rabble getting angry on everything their democratic/authoritarian/insane leaders did. Then the stupid rape drama happened. At least the MC ended up with the best girl, though. Also nice soundtrack.

Pretty much the whole thing is good. I don't really care for R, and a lot of people find SuperS wearing. But if you liked the first season there's no real reason to stop there.

It was great to hear Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars talking about dildos and anal sex.

I love that anime. Rayearth is one of my favourite anime. It's just something I really love.
Only been a year, but I'm already thinking that maybeI should rewatch it.

I really liked how it was a such a nice blend of badass and cute. Hikaru a best girl forever.

I'm watching Kimagure Orange Road.

Best Girl pictured.

just watched gunbuster and am finishing up my Eva rewatch tonight, maybe Patlabor OVA after

Only two episodes left pf Princess Nine now

Watching Ashita no Joe. I dunno what they're gonna do with these last twenty or so episodes now that Rikiishi's dead. Is the second show better?

Everything after ep 52 is anime original. Joe 2 look great though and is definitely worth watching.

Not on the topic of the thread, but yes, Gurren Lagann.

Middle fingers are offensive, dicks aren't.

g8 b8 m8

Finished Princess Nine. Very good.

More about Princess Nine:
Brilliant artstyle. The animation was great, the colours were perfect. Good backgrounds, great character design. The girls all looked amazing, and also had that fresh, crispy 90s style to it, without going overboard with it. I also want to mention the eyes, some of the best eyes I've seen in anime. Overall, the visuals were absolutely amazing.
The background music was also really good, some good songs and something you notice, in a good way.

I really liked the anime overall too. For a long time, it bothered me a bit that it focused so much on romance and a bit on drama, but eventually it became a part of the series. In the earlier parts, the whole thing was just great fun, it really made me smile and felt a bit like a good cgdct, but with sports, drama and romance added to it. It also became really emotional. Everything built up the right emotions really well.
For a while, it looked like there was a risk of it ending really awkwardly or stupidly, but it managed to take the story to a proper conclusion as well.

All in all, it was a really good anime that I can strongly recommend, and it will become a staple in my top 90s anime lists, and just another example of how 1998 was a good year.
It gets a strong 7/10 from me, almost pushing into an 8.
Should be seen by way more people.

Now I want another season.

Just finished rewatching Outlaw Star, still my favorite anime of all time.

Neat, it's the art that makes me wanna watch it most. Good to hear they're consistently that good.

Best girl

I want to fuck Ranma.
Also old school anime has better opening than today's crap. youtube.com/watch?v=XZ-lTw-Gqj8

Fucking newfaggots, christ.

I want to _____ Ryoko inside her _____

...

I've been watching some City Hunter, the first ~10 or so episodes are eh, but when it finds it's groove it's a very fun episodic show to wind down with after work.

Currently dragging my feet through this. Did anyone here watch Ronin Warriors when it was still new-ish? Has it just not aged well or is it actually as boring as I think it is? Never watched it on Toonami so I don't have any nostalgia over here.

How anyone seen Plastic Little?

I've been reading the slayers lns, they're fairly entertaining. I'm onto volume ten after part one finishes and the fan translation is really kicking in, some sentences are almost incoherent. Still enjoying it though, I just want more Lina

youtube.com/watch?v=XT03UFK9Z-Y

Still one of the best videogame anime ever.

Ryoko is for sexual.

Now I'm a bit stuck on what to watch next.
Is Idol Defense Force Hummingbird any good?
Maybe I should watch Soreyuke Uchuu Senkan Yamamoto Yohko TV?
Meh
I'm not asking for recommendations, just expressing my uncertainty about what to watch now.
Maybe I'll just wait for another day

I've always felt kind of bad for watching a bunch of Pre-2000 shows, because whenever I decide to watch one, I end up likg it alot.

Are my tastes just old fashioned? Has anime "gotten worse" or is it because it's just easier to go back and find an old great series, where as with newer ones, you have to wait and see?

Also, is Trigun better dubbed or subbed?

Yamamoto Yohko is nice, but it can wait if you are not a fan of Shibo.

Never heard of Hummingbird though

If you want something nice from the 90s just watch Nadesico

Old anime has a cham to them, and maybe your nostalgia goggles are affecting you

Depends on the shows you like, I guess. I personally think anime has gotten worse, but that doesn't mean good things no longer exist and bad things weren't made back then.

This was a real thing that existed

I love that Topo Gigio wants to fuck a human little girl

I agree that Infinite Ryvius is supremely overrated. It's popularity mostly comes from the fact that a huge proportion of the anime watching audience just loves clusterfucks of insane characters breaking down in despair and madness regardless of the quality of the writing (see: Danganronpa's massive popularity). It was from the guy(s) who went on to make Code Geass and many other Sunrise trainwrecks, so it sets the stage for all the future stuff they'll make.

I like Princess 9 too, but my HUGE beef with it is the broken Aesop it engenders. Now, I went into it knowing that Japanese sports stuff is the polar opposite of American sports stuff, and that in Japanese sports that aren't blatantly shonen the main character/team often lose to prove a point.

Except P9 shoves down your throat the ventral theme of "Girls can play sports/ball JUST as well as boys do, the fact that they're GIRLS won't affect it at all!" It's the central tenet of EVERYTHING that happens in the series.

And then they get to the climactic final game.

And the ENTIRE team implodes, they lose and fuck up EVERYTHING, and it's all SOLELY because they're girls having girly drama, man issues, daddy issues, and girly girl drama.

Male cast is great for the trigun dub, jap is probably better but the dub is good.
Everything was better in the 90s

I've already seen the OVAs, so for Yamamoto Yohko it'd have to be the TV version. I don't really feel an urgent need to see it, I know I have plenty of good anime to see, I just want more of Princess Nine, at least the style, and I remember I liked the eyes of the main character in the OVAs, and that it was light hearted, so it was just something I loosely considered.

Also already seen Nadesico, so will have to watch something else. I may just stop watching for today and see if I want something tomorrow. Or, I think I am in the mood to be able to survive one OVA, perhaps. If I find one I want to see.

There is a pretty big change in style pretty close to exactly year 2000, at least. You may prefer the old style.

I always thought it was a Saint Seiya rip-off

Did you read the synopsis before watching Ryvius? Its kind of general knowledge that Ryvius is just Lord of the Flies in space

I always thought Ryvius was obscure. Its from the late 90 early 2000 limbo that somehow people tend to forget about. The drama was actualy very good in the later parts for anime standards and none of the characters seemd crazy custerfucks nor insane and forced

Does anyone remember watching Heidi the Girl In The Mountains?

I didn't find that to be that big of a problem. I think the lady may have been wrong in that being girls won't affect anything, but it isn't that wrong. I don't know if the breakdown was due to them being girls, either. I think they had some good development. Uhm. Or something. And in the end, they got over their drama, and were able to play their best. A bit more experience, and they may make it the next time. And the final hit was simply that he beat her, nothing to be with being girls.
I was a bit worrried about the empty club room at the end, I was worried that it meant that they quit. But I don't think they did.

One thing that was strange though, was the visit by aliens. It was overall a pretty realistic anime, so suddenly aliens felt a bot weird. At least it was subtle enough that you can imagine it being something else.

KOR is a favorite, and the 80's atmosphere is terrific. I also recommend Maison Ikkoku as another classic in a similar vein.
